Florida Defensive Lineman Sean Sevillano Jr. Has Made Notre Dame A Priority

Clearwater Academy International coach Dan Meyer gives insight on talented defensive lineman Sean Sevillano Jr.

On June 16-19, Notre Dame is set to welcome several talented 2024 recruits for official visits. That includes Clearwater (Fla.) Academy International defensive tackle Sean Sevillano Jr., who is one of the more productive defensive lineman in the 2024 recruiting class.

Of course you can take a look at his box score and get impressed. You can also look at the size, as well as the offer list. All are extremely promising. For even better context for what Sevillano brings to the game, the offensive and recruiting coordinator, Dan Meyer, gave some insight into the talented defensive tackle.

"If he was 6-5, he would be considered the top player in the country,” Meyer told Irish Breakdown. "He is one of the best high school prospects I’ve been around. The kid is physically impressive, but he works even harder. Sean is the type of kid who sticks around practice and just does extra sprints by himself. He is incredibly strong and really gets after it in the weight room. He is also still very young. When he enrolls in January, Sean will still only be 17 years old.”

Despite that high praise, and admittance that Sevillano is without question the best player on the talented Clearwater squad, he remains a selfless member of the program. That is something that really sets him a part.

"The team always comes first for him,” Meyer explained. "Our center was lost during the season so we moved Sean to center for three games. During that stretch, he barely played on defense. He legitimately could have had 30 sacks that season. He’s the captain, leader and doesn’t have an ego. I really can’t find a negative thing to say about the kid.”

Sevillano has quickly become fond of the Notre Dame program, with the coaching staff reciprocating that interest. The recruiting process can be overwhelming to some. For Sevillano, he has remained composed and really knows exactly what he is searching for.

"Sean is a very big picture oriented person,” said Meyer. "The education piece is very important for him. The network and what the degree actually stands for means a lot. He is very concerned about the full picture, about what each school can provide on the next level. This is a 40 year decision and obviously that’s what Notre Dame really stands for.

"He’s been a pro about it all,” he continued. "Sean is one of the few international kids here that has his parents here with him. His dad lives here and his mom is here all the time and flies in and out for work. Having that support system every day is huge. Most of our kids have a different level of maturity and that’s true of Sean.”

The biggest reason that Notre Dame has put themselves in a great position is because of relationships they have formed. It is two coaches in particular who have really shown Sevillano their vision.

"He has built a great relationship with Al Washington and Al Golden,” Meyer said. "They really don’t have to sell him on anything. Sean doesn’t want to be swayed. He wants to just know what their thoughts are on how he fits and completely understand the process. They have made him a priority so Sean has made them a priority as well.”

As of now, Sevillano has official visits to both Ohio State and Auburn on top of his trip to South Bend. Adding impact size to the middle of the defense has been a priority for the program. That’s exactly how they envision Sevillano on the next level.

Sevillano was a dominant force for Clearwater American International as a junior. On the season, he recorded 78 total tackles, 50 tackles for loss, 22 sacks and six forced fumbles. He did all that while only playing in 11 games.

The 6-2, 300-pound defender currently holds 28 reported offers to his name. Some of the notable programs to extend offers include the Fighting Irish, Ohio State, Miami, Auburn, Wisconsin, Stanford, Maryland, Louisville, Duke, Illinois, West Virginia, Wake Forest, Indiana, Iowa State and Kansas among others.
