Offensive lineman are a unique breed, often working in silence but letting their plays speak loudly. That is especially true of elite 2024 West Roxbury (Mass.) Catholic Memorial offensive tackle Guerby Lambert, who officially signed with Notre Dame on Wednesday. It’s quite possible that Lambert may be the quietest 6-7, 300-pound dominant force you will find.

When you hear him speak, you are met with an eloquent young man who has an especially nice demeanor. Then you watch him play, and you see an absolute bully. Lambert enjoyed every moment of National Signing Day, which was something he remained humble and grateful for.

"My day was good,” Lambert told Irish Breakdown. "It feels good to finally sign. You know, we've been looking forward to this day for a long time and finally came, so I'm excited.

"I'm extremely excited,” he continued. "I've been waiting for this for a long time. I'm ready to compete. I'm ready to, you know, just play for Notre Dame and develop for the years to come.”

The rest of the Lambert family, who come from humble beginnings and Haitian descent, also thoroughly enjoyed his moment. It’s the start of the next chapter but they all understand how rare of an accomplishment it truly is.

"They are just taking everything in, same as me,” said Lambert. "They're just extremely blessed to be put in this position. They’re just extremely happy for me and excited for the next step.”

It was a very interesting recruitment for Lambert, who was courted by former offensive line Coach Harry Hiestand very early on. Then there was a coaching change. Through that transition, Notre Dame was able to not only maintain but continue to gain momentum. Joe Rudolph deserves a lot of credit for that.

"That transition was honestly extremely smooth just because of the guy and the coach that coach Rudolph is,” Lambert explained. "You know, just having a couple of conversations with him on the phone, I could just tell he's someone that I would want to be coached by easily. He is a great guy and I'm very happy that they chose him after Coach Hiestand.

"It would have been a pleasure to play under Coach Hiestand because, you know, he's a legend but Coach Rudolph, he's an amazing coach as well,” Lamber added. "I know he's going to allow me to see my true potential.”

Another huge part of this recruitment was Lambert’s former high school teammate Boubacar Traore, who signed with the Irish in the 2023 recruiting class. Traore offered a unique, yet familiar perspective for Lambert.

"I talked to him a couple of times, just so he could give me some background on how it actually is,” he explained. "I know from recruiting and then to being a player is a little bit different. I know it's hard for him because, you know, he's going a little far from home. So I just talked to him a couple of times, to see how the transition was and see how classes were. He helped me a lot getting to know what it was like being at Notre Dame.”

In the end, however, Notre Dame really sold itself. Each time Lambert got on campus, it solidified that it was a place he needed to be. There’s a feeling when you get on campus, which Lambert definitely appreciated.

“It was a really beautiful campus,” Lambert stated. “You really get that tight-knit community feel, which is kind of like what we have at Catholic Memorial. We're a pretty small Catholic school, and Notre Dame kind of mirrors that tight-knit community feel. Anyone that would go would be astonished by the campus.”

Add in the fact that Lambert is extremely forward-thinking, and the fit continued to make even more sense. The long-term is important, which Notre Dame offers everything you need after football.

"That's part of the reason why I chose Notre Dame, because I know what they can do for me in my future, whether it be through football,” he said. "If football, like Coach (Marcus) Freeman, was saying earlier, he was taking a press conference. He was saying that football ends really quickly, whether that be you get injured or anything can happen to you. That’s part of the reason I chose Notre Dame. I was looking out for my future. Anyone that cares about their future will go to Notre Dame, so that's what I did.”

Offensive line recruiting will never be an issue at Notre Dame. Lambert is just the latest success story in that department, ranking as high as the No. 22 overall player and No. 4 offensive tackle in the 2024 recruiting class according to On3. The West Roxbury native is a tremendous get for the Irish, from every vantage point.
