Notre Dame Got A “Seamless Match” In Dominik Hulak

In this story:
On Thursday, Notre Dame received a commitment from 2025 Elmhurst (Ill.) Immaculate Conception defender Dominik Hulak. A versatile defensive player, Hulak could potentially play either linebacker or defensive end on the next level.
From a versatility, academic, proximity and personality perspective, Hulak seems like the perfect fit with the Notre Dame program. According to Immaculate Conception head coach William Krefft, the fit couldn’t make more sense. Hulak exemplifies everything that the Irish program stands for.
"Obviously we’re very close to Notre Dame,” Krefft told Irish Breakdown. "Since they started recruiting him, I know Dom has been very high on them. I’m not surprised that they were the school he decided on. It’s really a seamless match.
"Notre Dame is a great school and plays a physical brand of football,” Krefft continued. "I think that he will be able to really continue that proud tradition. He exemplifies everything that the program stands for.”
There is some question what position Hulak eventually ends up at. The answer, there might be a lot of potential landing spots. His coach is high on everything that he can do on the field.
"On defense, there isn’t much that Dom can’t do,” Krefft explained. "He can play any linebacker spot, rush the passer, and cover. He can even make an impact on offense. His versatility is definitely one of the best parts of his game.
"Obviously he’s a big kid,” he continued. "I’m interested to see how he continues to grow physically. He moves so well that he obviously could stick at linebacker even as he gets bigger, but getting him on the edge, and letting him attack is a big part of his game. You can use him in so many ways to create pressure.”
The talent is nice to see. The size is fantastic and the versatility will be something Notre Dame values. That, however, isn’t what separates Hulak the most. It’s what he does when others aren’t looking.
"He’s a tireless worker,” said Krefft. "You aren’t going to find a young man who plays as hard, or prepares as diligently. His motor is always running.
"Notre Dame is going to be really happy with Dom,” he added. "He’s a talented kid who will outwork everyone. From day one, he’s had this competitiveness that is just outmatched. He hates to lose.”
For the third time since being offered by the Irish during the Pot of Gold offer event on St. Patrick’s Day, Hulak made the trip back to South Bend for their game against USC a few weeks ago. The talented defender has already been very busy visiting schools this season. Hulak was at the Illinois-Penn State, Iowa-Michigan State, and Wisconsin-Ohio State games.
Hulak had been garnering interest from several prominent Midwestern programs. Some of his notable offers include the Fighting Irish, Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Purdue, Illinois, Louisville and Iowa State so far. Several other programs have also been keeping close contact with Hulak.
The 6-3, 232-pound athlete was a key performer for the 13-1 Class 3A state championship squad as a sophomore. In total, Immaculate Conception outscored its opponents by a margin of 617 to 151 en route to winning the team’s last 12 games of the season. The Knights are off to a 9-2 start in 2023.
The Illinois native does the bulk of his damage on the defensive side of the football. Over the last two seasons, Hulak collected 93 total tackles, nine tackles for loss and four sacks. He also had two fumble recoveries, seven pass breakups and two blocked kicks.
On offense, Hulak also has a role as a tight end. In the last two seasons, he hauled in 18 receptions for 345 yards and two touchdowns through the air. That is an average of 19.2 yards per receptions. Hulak also ran the ball once for a 12 yard gain.
