In-State Pass Rusher Damien Shanklin Previews Notre Dame Visit

In this story:
Notre Dame is set for another massive recruiting weekend for their battle against USC. Among the long list of talented recruits expected on campus, 2025 Indianapolis (Ind.) Warren Central pass rusher Damien Shanklin will be making his return trip to campus. The local standout was offered back in early August, quickly developing a relationship with the Irish staff.
Now set for his first game visit, Shanklin is excited to experience everything that Notre Dame brings to the table. Saturday promises to be a special one.
"My expectations on the visit is really to see the atmosphere and have a look at how the coaches coach their players and see how the players take it in,” Shanklin told Irish Breakdown. "Notre Dame communicates with me constantly and just tells me how much they can see me in their program. "I’m just ready to get down on campus. It should be a great game and experience.”
While the season is still going, Shanklin’s attention has been on his team and goals he has set. In between, he has been enjoying the recruiting process with the extra time.
"Recruiting has been good so far,” he said. “I have just really been focusing on football and school. and building relationships with the coaches. They are really good coaches and it’s been great to get to know them as a staff.
"I’m just really looking for a great fit for me,” he added. "It’s a big decision so I’m trying to make sure I find home.”
Shanklin is beginning to collect several impressive offers over the last few months. Some of the top programs who have extended offers thus far include the Fighting Irish, USC, Texas, Iowa, Missouri, Cincinnati, Minnesota, Purdue, West Virginia, Kansas, Indiana and Rutgers among others. Warren Central is the same school as former Irish star Sheldon Day.
The 6-4, 230-pound defensive end is considered a four-star recruit on the On3 Industry ranking, as well as on Rivals. On the Industry ranking, Shanklin currently sits as the No. 278 overall player and No. 21 EDGE in the 2025 recruiting class. He is also the No. 3 player in the state of Indiana.
As a sophomore, Shanklin assumed a substantial role for Warren Central. The in-state standout collected 32 total tackles, five tackles for loss and three sacks.
Now a junior, Shanklin has taken his game to a higher level. In eight games so far, the talented defender has recorded 47 total tackles, 13 tackles for loss and three sacks. Shanklin has also broken up four passes.
