Notre Dame has several local 2025 recruits coming to campus this weekend for their matchup against Central Michigan, including Zionsville (Ind.) High School defender Max Phenicie. This will be Phenicie’s first trip to South Bend, which he’s incredibly excited about.

“I think I’m most excited in seeing the gameday traditions and environment that take place at Notre Dame, because I have yet to see it. I'm also excited to meet the coaches in person as well,” Phenicie said.

Notre Dame is one of the schools who have been in contact with Phenicie, although on a limited basis so far. It will be interesting to see how that relationship increases this weekend.

“So far I haven’t had too many conversations with the coaches but they say they really like how I play and wanted to see me in person,” Phenicie explained. “So far I really enjoy them and what they are saying about me.”

Phenicie has received some legitimate recruiting interest. So far Ole Miss and Maryland have extended offers. That offer list promises to continue to expand quickly.

With interest just heating up, Phenicie is just getting to know several schools. There isn’t necessarily a list of top schools. It’s more about developing relationships.

“So far recruiting has been fun,” he said. “I've gotten to have a lot of great conversations with coaches and have got to experience a lot of really cool things. I don’t really have any specific colleges that really stand out to me yet. In my opinion they’re all pretty cool.”

Despite Phenicie being a Indiana native, this will be his first experience in South Bend. It offers a lot of possibilities and chance to begin develop a relationship with the Irish this weekend.

As a sophomore, Phenicie finished 50 total tackles. The 6-2, 190-pound defender also recorded four tackles for loss.
