Notre Dame Looking To Strike Gold In California In The 2024 Class

In this story:
Notre Dame has historically had a great deal of success on the recruiting trail in California. So much so that the program decided to end every season in California, either at Stanford or USC. That allowed the coaches to immediately hit the ever important West Coast recruiting trail, with California being the top priority.
The 2022 team had a pair of team captains from California in edge Isaiah Foskey and guard Jarrett Patterson. Notre Dame signed a pair of offensive players from California in the 2023 class (Rico Flores Jr., Cooper Flanagan), two defensive players in the 2022 class (Jaden Mickey, Niuafe Tuihalamaka) and five players from the state in 2021 (Tyler Buchner, Chance Tucker, Will Schweitzer, Devin Aupiu, Joshua Bryan).
Notre Dame is once again trying to make an impact in the state in the 2024 cycle.
TOP TARGETS
It is another important wide receiver class in 2024 for Chansi Stuckey and the offensive staff. They pulled a tremendous four-man class in 2023 and are off to a fast start with 2024 with Illinois star Cam Williams.
One player that the staff have their eye on is Rancho Santa Margarita (Calif.) Catholic pass catcher Emmett Mosley, who is very familiar with Notre Dame. The 6-1, 180-pound athlete brings an impressive blend of explosiveness, physicality and after catch ability. He is the son of former Notre Dame wide receiver of the same name, as well as his mother who was an all-time great on the soccer field for the Irish.
Mosley has alignment versatility on the next level. He has the ability to play both in the slot and on the outside if he ends up with the Irish. There is interest from both sides but Notre Dame will need to grab momentum and close.
Another talented pass catcher on the Irish board is Long Beach (Calif.) Poly star wide receiver Jason Robinson. Although Robinson is currently committed to USC, the dynamic slot receiver is keeping his options open.
Robinson is high on Coach Stuckey and continues to listen to his pitch. If the staff pushes hard for Robinson, they should have a chance to flip the California native in the end. He would bring an interesting dynamic as a route runner and upside to win in space.
One of the more underrated players on the board overall is West Hills (Calif.) Chaminade standout safety Marquis Gallegos. The 6-0, 160-pound defensive back is a hard hitting safety who plays a physical brand of football. He is also incredibly instinctive, making a ton of plays on the football.
Gallegos has spoken very highly of Notre Dame in the past and the staff appears very high on him as well. Getting him on campus over the next couple of months remains a big priority.
The Irish staff currently boasts a very talented linebacker board for 2024 but there are some substantial questions for which linebackers the staff is in good position with. One of the more talented players is Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco standout Kingston Villamu-Asa. There doesn’t appear to be much traction currently but the staff is still keeping communication with him.
Another underrated player in the 2024 class is Oakland (Calif.) Fremont Senior star Naki Tuakoi. The 6-3, 220-pound linebacker has an interesting profile to play a traditional inside linebacker position and on the ball at times as well. It remains to be seen if Notre Dame will make a push for him or focus on other members on the board.
Notre Dame also just extended offers to West Hills (Calif.) Chaminade wide receiver Kwazi Gilmer and Sacramento (Calif.) Grant Union safety Kingston Lopa. Both players are interesting athletes to keep a close eye on.
