Ohio Athlete Shaun Terry Brings Unique And Special Athleticism

In this story:
A slightly smaller but dominant program, Ironton (Ohio) High School has a proud tradition of playing excellent football. They have continuously put out next level talent but may have an all-timer in the 2025 class with wide receiver Shaun Terry, who Notre Dame and several other big programs are pursuing heavily.
When you pop on his film, you’re going to see an athlete that does a little bit of everything for the Fighting Tigers. Terry brings a ton of versatility to the table, with the overall athleticism to make plays everywhere. According to Ironton assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Jerrod Pendleton, Terry is a rare, rare talent.
"Shaun is such a unique athlete,” Pendleton told Irish Breakdown. "He’s one of those rare kids who can change direction without having to slow down or lose any speed. You usually hear that wide receivers need to break down, drop their hips and work in and out of breaks. Shaun doesn’t need to do that. He is just such a rare short area athlete. That's also true working laterally. It makes him such a hard player to deal with in space.
"Honestly his background in basketball really translates onto the football field,” Coach Pendleton continued. "He has this innate ability to create space, find a crease and make a play. That really is from his work as a basketball player and his ability to see the whole field.”
Whether it is on the football field or the basketball court, Terry is a natural. He comes from a football family and is already an incredibly decorated overall athlete.
"He’s that guy who is good at everything he does,” Coach Pendleton explained. "Everything he picks up, he seems to excel at it. Shaun’s first love was actually basketball. He’s cousins with former NBA player OJ Mayo and actually plays for his AAU national team. He was the starting point guard this past year and helped the team win a national championship.”
As if Terry’s athletic accomplishments weren’t impressive enough, he is also an outstanding student. Terry is also a tremendous young man, which Pendleton couldn’t speak any higher of,
"Shaun is a super human being,” he said. "He’s the type of young man that you want your son to grow up to be. He’s just a special kid.”
While Terry is rated as just a three-star recruit by all of On3, 247Sports and Rivals, his expanding offer list tells a much different story. The 5-9, 170-pound pass catcher has been hearing from some of the top schools in the Midwest and others around college football, receiving offers from the Irish, Michigan, Penn State, USC, Oregon, Clemson, Auburn, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Louisville, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Missouri, West Virginia, Iowa, Boston College and Illinois among others.
That added attention comes off of a stellar junior campaign for Terry. The Ohio star was an all purpose threat for the 11-2 Fighting Tiger squad. In those 14 games, Terry led the team with 525 receiving yards and nine touchdowns on 27 receptions, averaging an impressive 19.4 yards per reception. He also ran the football 28 times for another 391 yards and five touchdowns.
Terry was also an impressive performer on defense for Ironton, totaling 32 tackles, seven tackles for loss, three interceptions and six pass breakups. For good measure, he also averaged 31.7 yards per punt return and took another five back for scores. Terry was truly a threat to make a big play in every capacity in 2023.
