Notre Dame Recruiting Roundup - October 9th

In this story:
Notre Dame came into this past weekend with high expectations, and their destiny very much in their control. Unfortunately a disheartening 33-20 loss to Louisville completely derailed that momentum. The rest of the season will be about soul searching and trying to find an identity.
Luckily for the future of the Irish program, recruiting has continued to be an outstanding and strong suit of this staff. Here is everything you need to know on the recruiting side for the Irish this past week. It was, as always, a hectic week of news.
NOTRE DAME vs LOUISVILLE
Leading up to the Louisville game, I did a few dive into how the two programs have recruited over the years. While that doesn’t always matter, acquiring talent is always very important. From that perspective, the Irish had a huge advantage.
There were several position battles that Notre Dame needed to win against Louisville. I highlighted a few make-or-break battles on both offense and defense. Unfortunately, Notre Dame fell short in several key areas.
RECENT RECRUITING NEWS
Notre Dame commits once again had a tremendous week of high school football action. I highlighted every player to watch, including how to watch and the matchups. It was a great week to be a fan of the future.
While it was an away game for the Irish, there were still several top Notre Dame targets who were visiting some of the big games in college football. That included two important 2025 safeties who were visiting Louisville.
There were several players who have solidified trips to South Bend for Notre Dame’s matchup against USC this weekend. One was 2025 Lucas (Texas) Lovejoy standout pass catcher Daylan McCutcheon, who will be visiting for the second time.
Notre Dame will also be welcoming back 2025 Davie (Fla.) Western wide receiver Koby Howard back to campus for the second time. This will be his first visit in over a year. Howard is pumped to be able to take in a game day.
An in-state 2025 target who will be experiencing his first game day as well is Indianapolis (Ind.) Warren Central pass rusher Damien Shanklin. The 6-4, 230-pound defensive end is a fast riser who is starting to get a lot of traction on the recruiting trail.

RECRUITING EXCLUSIVES
In a deep conversation with Omaha (Neb.) Westside defensive coordinator Jeremy Queen, he went in depth on a couple of his stat players. That included Irish linebacker commit Teddy Rezac, who brings an absurd amount of versatility to the table.
Fellow linebacker Christian Jones, who is a top target for the Irish in 2025, also brings a ton of possibilities defensively. Coach Queen has known Jones was special for some time now.
Recently Notre Dame extended a preferred walk-on opportunity to 2024 Omaha (Neb.) Westside quarterback Anthony Rezac, who is a very talented athlete. According to Queen, he needs a lot more opportunities moving forward.
It has been an offseason of transitions for 2024 defensive tackle commit Davion Dixon. Now a part of the Miami Palmetto program, he has quickly made an impact with the new program. Dixon went in depth on his new team.
2025 wide receiver target Koby Howard is visiting Notre Dame for the USC game. He has also transferred school this offseason while also recovering from a catastrophic knee injury. Howard is now back and fully healthy.
