Notre Dame Shows Devin Williams Elite Cornerback Play

In this story:
It was a long list of impressive recruits who were on campus for Notre Dame’s game against Ohio State. The defense had an especially impressive list of recruits , including 2025 Buford (Ga.) High School star cornerback Devin Williams.
This was Williams’ second trip to campus, and his first gameday. Leaving the trip, it’s apparent that Notre Dame continues to impress. The environment really made an impact on the Georgia native.
“That was one of the most exciting games I’ve been to,” Williams told Irish Breakdown. “The Notre Dame fans are second to none. It was an electric atmosphere. I also got a chance to talk to Coach (Mike) Mickens before the game.”
Williams got to South Bend a little bit later than anticipated. Despite that, the talented cover man still had plenty of time to spend with other commits and coaches on campus. They continue to make a great impression on him.
“We got to the game about two hours before kickoff so I didn’t really get a chance to talk to anyone other than Deuce Knight,” Williams explained. “He and I texted for a bit and it was good. He’s excited about his commitment and wants me to be a part of the class.
“Coach Mickens asked how my game went Friday night,” he continued. “He told me the guys were ready to play and just take in the game and enjoy the atmosphere. He said he was really glad I came to the game.”
Williams had the chance to see Mickens’ impact on the field. The cornerback position for Notre Dame had a big test against Ohio State, and they passed with flying colors.
“(Benjamin) Morrison is probably the best cornerback in college,” said Williams. “I was very impressed with the job he did on (Marvin) Harrison Jr. Both the corners were really good.”
What seemed like a bit of a long shot recruitment early on, Notre Dame continues to build a ton of momentum with the Buford star. The next few months will be big for Williams to eventually make a decision. Notre Dame has every opportunity to be in it until the end.
“Notre Dame is doing a really good job recruiting me,” he said. “There’s no question that they want me to be a part of the class. I’m excited to see which schools keep the closest contact with me and really push hard.”
Williams is considered a consensus four-star and top 100 recruit by every major recruiting platform. He ranks currently as the No. 70 overall player and No. 6 cornerback in the 2025 recruiting class according to the On3 Industry ranking. That also has him pegged as the No. 12 player from the state of Georgia, a state that puts out a silly amount of talent each year.
The 5-10, 155-pound cornerback is being pursued by some of the top programs in all of college football. Some of his notable offers include Notre Dame, Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Tennessee, Florida State, Penn State, Texas, Florida, Auburn, Texas A&M, Arkansas, NC State, Colorado, South Carolina, Mississippi State, Michigan State, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Duke and Georgia Tech among others.
The Buford standout is also a standout track and field athlete for the school’s team. As a sophomore, he posted personal bests of 10.65 seconds in the 100 meter dash and 21.4 seconds in the 200. That speed and explosiveness translates over to the football field in a big way.
