There Was No Need To Wait For New 2025 Notre Dame Commit Davion Dixon

In this story:
The Blue-Gold Game weekend got off to a fast start on Friday when 2025 Miami (Fla.) Belen Jesuit defensive tackle Davion Dixon committed to the University of Notre Dame. He became the first commitment for the Irish in the 2025 recruiting class overall.
After a great visit to @NDFootball I'm honored to announce my commitment. @Marcus_Freeman1 @CoachAlGolden @CoachWash56 thank you for the time you took with my mom and me.@ByKyleKelly @MikeTSinger @247Sports @Rivals @On3sports let's make the update. ☘ #GoIrish… pic.twitter.com/adZVaKrkZ7

This commitment came as a bit of a surprise. Dixon wasn’t necessarily on “commit watch” coming into the event but quickly knew that this was the right time for him to make that decision. As it turns out, this wasn’t as some people think.
Dixon just knew.
“I have been really thinking about it and talking with my parents,” Dixon told Irish Breakdown. “My mom and dad say if I feel it, why wait?
“The coaches took the initiative to communicate with my coach several times this year regularly checking on me and inviting me up,” Dixon continued. “They are really organized and took the time to make sure we had an itinerary and knew exactly when and where to be.”
With that thought going through his mind so much leading up to the visit, getting back to South Bend seemed like the last piece of the puzzle. Once Dixon and his family arrived, it was cemented. This was the place for him.
“Once I got back to campus, I was sure,” he explained. “They treated my mom and I well and talked to us through questions we had. It really sealed it for us.
“They sold us on the school, not the football team so that stood out,” Dixon added. “I already know this is the biggest brand in college football, I want to know how they'll support me as a student. There's a clear path for me to develop as a student and as a man.”
There are, without question, going to be some people who question whether this was too impulsive of a decision. Just last year, defensive end Brandon Davis-Swain became the first commitment in the 2024 recruiting class and we see how that went.
For Dixon, the timing doesn’t matter. He’s all Irish and excited to continue his athletic and academic career.
“Notre Dame was at the top of my list coming in,” said Dixon. “It's a special place, a community like no other.
“I'm beyond excited to continue my catholic education,” he added. “I'm coming from a Jesuit prep school so I like the similarity in culture.”
On the football field, Dixon’s style and impact is a welcomed addition to the team. As a student and person, it is a no brainer.
Dixon was an absolute menace as a sophomore. He finished second on the team with 70 total tackles, while also recording 33 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks. Dixon also posted 24 quarterback hurries, broke up five passes, forced a fumble, recovered another and blocked a kick.
Despite only being sophomore, Dixon continues to hear from some of the top programs in college football. The 6-2, 305-pound defender has received offers from the Irish, Florida, Nebraska, Penn State, Florida State, Auburn, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Louisville, West Virginia, and Syracuse among others.
Rivals currently has Dixon rated as a four-star recruit. They have him slotted as the No. 185 overall player and No. 10 defensive lineman in the 2025 recruiting class. Dixon is also rated as the No. 20 player in the state of Florida, a state that Notre Dame has had its troubles in the past.
