Versatile Defender Anthony Sacca Set For Important Notre Dame Visit

In this story:
The 2025 linebacker board is long, explosive and extremely talented. There is no player who exemplifies that description better than Philadelphia (Pa.) St. Joseph’s athlete Anthony Sacca, who is set for a return visit to Notre Dame this weekend for their battle against Ohio State.
Notre Dame enters the visit as one of the top schools for Sacca, whose father was a teammate of Al Golden while at Penn State. That connection has certainly helped to develop a good standing with the versatile defender.
"I’ve been talking with a lot of schools so far,” Sacca told Irish Breakdown. "A lot of schools have been reaching out. I’ve been on the phone with Coach (Marcus) Freeman a lot and Coach Golden. Also, the Penn state staff as a whole I’ve been in contact with a lot. I’ve been talking with Ohio State and Jim Knowles too.
"Everything is going well with Notre Dame,” he continued. "Coach Golden and Coach Freeman are texting me consistently throughout the weeks. I’ve been in contact with them probably more than any school other than Penn State.”
Sacca originally visited South Bend for the first time this off-season. This will be his first game experience and chance to see the Irish in person. That will offer a new and unique perspective.
"I’m just excited to see a good football game and see what South Bend is really all about when the lights are bright,” Sacca said.
As of today, this feels like a Notre Dame against Penn State battle. There is a timeline that Sacca is working towards but he’s very open to things potentially getting sped up.
"Right now, the timeline is looking more towards right after all my official visits but a lot of things can change over the next couple of months,” said Sacca. "If it feels like the time is right I’ll make my decision then.”
With that possibility on the table, it’s undeniable how important this visit is for Notre Dame. They have to impress Sacca and build momentum during the trip.
Sacca is considered as a four-star recruit by 247Sports, ESPN and Rivals, with Rivals ranking him as the nation's No. 83 overall player, No. 6 linebacker and No. 2 player in the state of Pennsylvania.
The 6-3, 225-pound defender currently holds an impressive offer list, rivaling any recruit in the class. Some of the notable programs who have extended offers include the Irish, Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, USC, Miami, Tennessee, Oregon, Texas A&M, Florida State, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Kentucky, South Carolina, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech and Rutgers among others.
The Pennsylvania standout is coming off of a standout sophomore campaign for St. Joseph’s Prep, who finished 12-1 with a state championship. Despite boasting an impressive combination of size and length, Sacca played on the back end at safety for the team. He ended the year with 49 total tackles, one interception, a forced fumble and another fumble recovery.
