Notre Dame Wide Receiver Commit Micah Gilbert "Will Make Immediate Impact On The Next Level"

Charlotte Christian Head Coach Chris James breaks down Micah Gilbert's fit with Notre Dame

Notre Dame received a commitment from 2024 Charlotte (N.C.) Christian wide receiver Micah Gilbert. The talented pass catcher opted for the Irish program over finalists Michigan, North Carolina, South Carolina, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech and Duke.

On paper, Gilbert looks like a tremendous fit into the program. There is nobody who would know that better than Charlotte Christian head coach Chris James, who is very excited about what Gilbert can bring to the table.

"Micah has great athleticism and technical ability,” Jones told Irish Breakdown. "His ball skills and route ability are some of the best I have seen at the high school level. He will make an immediate impact on the next level at Notre Dame.”

Those things are incredibly evident on film, so Coach James’ comments shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. According to James, however, it is his work habits that stick out most. That is what separates him.

"He’s incredibly coachable,” James said. "There is no challenge that is too big for him. Micah understands expectations and never backs down from a challenge. He’s a special competitor.”

Then there’s of course the academic fit. Once again, Gilbert clears the standards with ease.

"As a student, Micah will thrive with the supports around him,” he said. "Notre Dame is a tremendous fit for him. They are getting a young man who fits the standard all around.”

With the commitment of Bryce Young and Gilbert, Notre Dame now has two members of the Charlotte Christian squad. That doesn’t happen often, and it isn’t lost on the people in the Charlotte community.

"Our community is so excited for Micah, and for Bryce,” James explained. "Having two Charlotte Christian players heading up to Notre Dame is something to celebrate. It’s a testament to their work ethics.”

Gilbert is considered a four-star recruit by every major recruiting platform. He peaks as the No. 199 overall player and No. 30 wide receiver in the 2024 recruiting class according to 247Sports. The North Carolina native sits as the No. 223 overall player and No. 38 wide receiver in the 2024 class on the On3 Comparison ranking. He earned a 4.0-star grade and a Top 150 player ranking on the Irish Breakdown board.

The 6-2, 205-pound pass catcher garnered interest from a host of impressive programs. Aside from Gilbert’s top seven schools, some of his impressive offers include Penn State, Tennessee, Virginia, Louisville, Missouri, Wake Forest, West Virginia and Georgia Tech among others.

Over the last two years, Gilbert has hauled in 79 receptions for 1,020 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. Despite only playing in seven games as a junior, Gilbert still managed to pull in 39 receptions for 486 yards and six touchdowns.

Gilbert is the younger brother of former All-ACC cornerback Mark Gilbert who was a star for Duke from 2016-2020. He is also the nephew of former NFL defensive lineman Sean Gilbert and cousin of NFL Hall of Famer Darrelle Revis.

Notre Dame now has a trio of pass catchers committed in the 2024 recruiting class. Gilbert joins Illinois star Cam Williams and Warner Robins athlete Isiah Canion, giving Chansi Stuckey yet another impressive talent to add to the wide receiver room.
