Notre Dame Will Be In It Until The End For Elite LB Marco Jones

Elite California linebacker Marco Jones updates his recruitment and relationship with Notre Dame

Notre Dame is pursuing an impressive list of potentially elite linebackers in the 2025 recruiting class. That includes Danville (Calif.) San Ramon Valley star defender Marco Jones, who has been high on the Irish for some time now.

Things have been busy over the last couple months, fresh off of an open period that saw a lot of programs come through to check in on Jones. He is just appreciative of all the attention.

"Everything recruiting wise has been really good,” Jones told Irish Breakdown. "I have had a chance to form some great relationships. As of now I do not have any visits scheduled but that could change.”

Notre Dame has been prioritizing the 6-4, 215-pound linebacker for some time now. They have been creating some unique and deeper bonds.

"Some schools that have been standing out are the ones that have been reaching out the most, definitely,” Jones explained. "Notre Dame has been one that continues to trend up. I have a great relationship with the coaching staff. My relationship with Coach (Max) Bullough and Coach (Al) Golden is great. They are both very good coaches and people. I feel like I mesh with them pretty well overall.”

The plan has always been for Jones to take things slow and try to make his commitment before senior season. There is no massive change. He is still doing his homework and giving all schools a chance, although the Irish have definitely carved out a spot for the long haul.

"There is no updated timeline for a commitment date,” Jones said. "I’m kind of just letting the process play out. There’s no doubt Notre Dame will be in it until the end.”

It’s hard not to marvel over Jones, who put together a tremendous junior year. He led San Ramon Valley with 166 total tackles, 15 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. He also had three interceptions, four pass breakups and three forced fumbles.

On offense, Jones was also a force. He hauled in 23 receptions for 366 yards and 10 total touchdowns.

He is well liked from a ranking perspective, but that promises to rise moving forward. Jones is currently highest on the 247Sports ranking, sitting as the No. 89 overall player, No. 12 linebacker and No. 8 player in the state of California in the 2025 class. He is considered a consensus four-star recruit by every major recruiting platform.

Jones already boasts an elite offer list. Some of the top schools that have offered hun so far include Notre Dame, Alabama, Michigan, Texas, USC, Oklahoma, Miami, Florida, Oregon, Penn State, Texas A&M, Washington, Nebraska, Tennessee, Oregon State, Colorado, Maryland, Michigan State, Kentucky, Minnesota, Duke, Arizona, Arizona State, Stanford, UCLA, Cal and Vanderbilt among others.
