Something that isn’t talked about enough is how Marcus Freeman and the staff have made a concerted effort to bring in more and more quality players as walk-ones since taking over. Just last recruiting cycle the staff was able to convince players like wide receiver Jordan Faison, safety Luke Talich and tight end Henry Garrity to opt for the Irish despite having other offers on the table.

In the 2024 recruiting, they are looking to make similar gains. That includes targeting talented Omaha (Neb.) Westside quarterback Anthony Rezac, who is the twin brother of 2024 linebacker commit Teddy Rezac. On Tuesday, Rezac had received the news that there would be a spot for him on the roster, a chance that he does not take for granted.

"I thought it was a really cool moment, especially after being there for the game last weekend,” Rezac told Irish Breakdown. "My contact with them has been pretty minimal until the last few weeks. They reached out to my coach and said they wanted to talk with me, and wanted me to come up to the game with Teddy.

"I was able to talk to a lot of coaches while I was up there and then got on the phone with Coach (Chad) Bowden today and he said they wanted to offer me a preferred walk-on opportunity,” he continued. "I just feel very grateful for the opportunity.”

As you might expect, Rezac does have a high opinion of the Notre Dame program, which shouldn’t be a surprise considering his brother is committed. Anthony clearly understands what they can provide.

"I think that the program itself is the best of both worlds, with the academic portion, and their success on the football field,” he said. "They provide everything you need as a student athlete.”

As of now, Rezac currently holds scholarship offers to Air Force, Army and Navy. Based on his film, there’s a very good chance that he could be receiving a lot more attention moving forward. In fact, that has already begun to happen.

"Recruiting has been picking up a lot since the season started,” Rezac stated. "I’m hoping that will continue moving forward.”

This offer came to Rezac to play quarterback on the next level, an intriguing proportion to continue to stockpile quality depth at the most important position in sports. Rezac isn’t just an ordinary walk-on. He is an outstanding athlete who brings some real upside to the table.

The 6-3, 200-pound signal caller is a big reason why Westside is in the hunt for another state championship this fall. Through five games, Rezac has already thrown for 970 yards and 13 touchdowns, while also rushing for 431 yards and eight more scores on just 36 carries (12 yards per carry). That comes a year after Rezac accounted for 3,357 total yards and 38 touchdowns.

With his brother, along with Notre Dame 2025 linebacker target Christian Jones, Westside is hunting for an undefeated season and back-to-back state championships.
