Notre Dame has already made an impact in Omaha (Neb.) Westside during the 2024 recruiting class, receiving a commitment from defender Teddy Rezac. Flash forward to the 2025 class and they are once again trying to land a massive commitment from star linebacker Christian Jones, who is set to make his first visit to campus this weekend when the Irish take on the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Jones, who is one of the outstanding defenders in the 2025 class, is being courted by some of the best programs in all of college football. Despite that, he hasn’t let recruiting take over his life. School, football and winning are still the priorities.

"For me, school and my football team always come first,” Jones told Irish Breakdown. "I fit recruiting in during my free time right now. I want to keep my priorities straight during the season.

"We are striving to be an elite team right now,” he continued. "Every team we play, in our mind, is the best team that we have played. We have a lot of goals and expectations for this team.”

Even with limited time for recruiting, Notre Dame has made a tremendous impact on Jones early on. They have made it very apparent that the Nebraska native is a priority for the team.

"They’re awesome people,” Jones explained. "Coach (Marcus) Freeman actually just texted me today to just let me know how excited they are to get me up there. I’ve really been getting to know all of the coaches and I’m excited to meet them all in person.”

All Jones knows leading up to this visit is that he is quite fond of the Irish staff. What the weekend will bring is completely up on the air.

"I don’t really have any expectations for the trip,” he said. "It’s my first time going over there and I don’t really know a ton about the program. I just know that it has a great reputation and I’m excited to see everything.

"It’s going to be a good game,” Jones added. "These types of games really bring out a team’s true colors and really show how good you are. It’s going to be a great test for both team.”

There is no plans for Jones to make a college decision anytime soon. This is more of an early introduction into everywhere the Notre Dame program has to offer. The staff is hoping to potentially seperate themselves following this trip.

Jones is rated as a four-star and Top 100 recruit nationally by 247Sports, ESPN and Rivals. 247Sports has him pegged as the No. 51 overall player and No. 7 linebacker in the 2025 recruiting class. Every major recruiting platform has Jones rated as the top recruit in the state of Nebraska.

That overall ranking matches Jones’ offer list, which is impressive. Some of the top programs who have offered him so far include Notre Dame, USC, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Nebraska, Washington, Michigan State, Iowa, Wisconsin, Stanford, Kansas State, Missouri, Iowa State, Boston College, Kansas and Minnesota among others.

The 6-3, 215-pound defender is coming off a tremendous season in 2022. As a sophomore, Jones was instrumental for the State Champion Westside defense. He finished with 60 total tackles, five tackles for loss, three sacks, an interception, three pass breakups and two forced fumbles.

So far as a junior, Jones has recorded 21 total tackles, three tackle for loss, a pass breakups and forced fumble through four games. He has also made three receptions for 114 yards and two touchdowns on the offensive side of the football.
