The Notre Dame coaches continued their rounds on the recruiting trail on Friday. That included an offer being extended to 2025 Lufkin (Texas) High School defensive tackle Zion Williams, who is the teammate of 2024 running back target Kedren Young.

In an interview with Irish Breakdown, Williams went in depth on the recent offer. The interest from a school like Notre Dame was big time for the Texas star.

"I’m just really proud right now,” Williams explained. "I was pretty hyped, smiling hard and stuff.

"I know that Notre Dame has one of the best academic schools in the nation so that was pretty nice to hear,” he continued. "The coach that I’ve talked to, Coach (Deland) McCullough, he’s a great guy based on the conversations we’ve had over the phone.”

Williams isn’t necessarily new to recruiting attention. The standout defensive lineman has already been garnering interest from several top programs. For now, he is just enjoying the ride.

"Recruiting has been going amazing considering I just got the offer from Notre Dame,” Williams said. "I’ve been hearing from a few schools like Texas Tech, Baylor and Texas. Those schools are really standing out right now.

"Honestly I really don’t know what I’m looking for yet,” Williams added. “I just want to have friendly people wherever I’m going. Relationships are big for me.”

There is little question that the Notre Dame staff under Marcus Freeman has made Texas a massive priority. They hope to continue that surge with one of the more talented defensive tackles in the 2025 class.

Williams is considered a four-star recruit by both ESPN and Rivals. Both outlets see him similarly, ranking him as the No. 133 and No. 149 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class respectively. ESPN also ranked as the No. 19 overall player in the state of Texas, a territory that Notre Dame is making a massive impact in recently.

The 6-4, 295-pound defensive lineman has been starting to pull in a ton of impressive offers. Some of the notable programs who have already pulled the trigger include the Irish, Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor and Texas Tech.
