NFL Draft Trend Signals Good Things for Upcoming Ohio State Season

A recently discovered pattern between college football national champions and the NFL Draft has one analyst predicting a 2023 title for the Buckeyes.

A trend among recent NFL drafts has the Ohio State Buckeyes in the best position to win the 2024 National Championship.

All but two of the last 16 teams to make the College Football Playoff (CFP) have ranked fifth or better in the number of players selected in the previous year’s NFL Draft, according to analyst and commentator Josh Pate.

The Georgia Bulldogs, whom defeated the Buckeyes in the 2023 Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl on their way to their second title in as many years, has boasted the most NFL draftees four years running.

How is this trend good for Ohio State? Buckeyes will compose up to seven of the players chosen in the opening round according to recent mock drafts for 2024, the most from any one school.

Pate says this record-setting number of NFL prospects all but guarantees the Buckeyes their first national championship since 2014.

"Not only do we have a preeminent favorite to win the College Football Playoff national championship but we have an overwhelming favorite to win the 2023 national championship,” Pate said. “Who’s it going to be? Ohio State's gonna win the national championship this year.”

Pate says that each of the last six national-champion teams has gone on to supply the most first-round draft picks in that year’s NFL Draft, a trend that puts Ohio State in the driver’s seat for the title, should the projections hold true.

While declining to comment what the Buckeyes’ record will be come the end of the season, Pate said he eagerly anticipates a lot from Ohio State on their way to the title.

“I am looking forward to this,” Pate said. “I don't know what my prediction's gonna be, but I expect very big things from the Buckeyes this year. And hey, so does the science.”
