Pat McAfee Predicts Buckeyes' Harrison to Win Heisman Trophy

Heading into Ohio State's season-opener, many are predicting receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., to have a big season.

With Week 0 out of the way, the predictions for who will win the Heisman Trophy this season have already rolled in. Over the offseason, notable names like former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer and even Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson have given their predictions, with both picking Buckeyes receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.

ESPN's Pat McAfee added himself to the list of analysts picking Harrison to win the Heisman, as he revealed on Saturday's first edition of "College Football Gameday" this season.

“He’s going to be the favorite weapon of whichever quarterback they start at Ohio State and I think Ohio State’s going to have a great year,” McAfee said. “So since it’s a new quarterback, I believe a lot of the attention is going to go to the wide receiver superstar. I think Marvin Harrison is going to get a lot of votes.”

The pick of Harrison is despite uncertainty at quarterback for the Buckeyes, as a recent report from ESPN's Pete Thamel indicated coach Ryan Day expects to use a dual-quarterback system in the season-opener versus Indiana. Which means Kyle McCord and Devin Brown will feature against the Hoosiers and possibly in the next two games versus Youngstown State and Western Kentucky.

Considering the history of the Heisman Trophy, which has only had three receivers win the prestigious award, the latest being Alabama's DeVonta Smith (2020), we know that it'd take a truly historic season from Harrison.

To win it back in 2020, Smith put together an impressive season, totaling 117 catches for 1,856 yards and 23 touchdowns. Compare that to Harrison's 77 receptions for 1,263 yards and 14 touchdowns last season, which didn't even make him a part of the top-10 for the award; you see what type of season it'd take.

But knowing the type of offenses that the Buckeyes have produced under coach Ryan Day, there is no doubt that Harrison will receive every opportunity to end up in New York.
