With Oklahoma baseball’s 2023 season opener just three days away, the program received some good news on Tuesday with a sizable donation made to the team.

The Sooner Club announced that a family in North Texas has donated $250,000 to OU baseball that will go toward the upcoming facility enhancements.

This continues a trend of upward trajectory for Skip Johnson’s program coming off of the team’s impressive run to the College World Series finals last June.

With the impending move to the SEC, widely considered the best baseball conference in the country by leaps and bounds, the Sooners recognize facility improvements will have to come for Oklahoma to continue to compete at the highest level.

While the intention is not to build a brand new ballpark entirely, L. Dale Mitchell Park is expected to get a massive makeover that will “transform the look of the ballpark from both the interior bowl and the exterior of the stadium.”

In addition to that, the Sooners are planning to have new locker rooms, training areas, coaches offices and team meeting areas among other various improvements.

The gift this week will certainly help out in that regard, with the move to the SEC coming for OU baseball in time for the 2025 season.

As for the present, Johnson’s club opens up the season on Friday at home against California Baptist and will be looking to continue the immense amount of momentum the program is currently carrying following 2022’s massive success.

First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at L. Dale Mitchell Park in Norman.
