NORMAN — The last piece of Oklahoma’s 2024 SEC puzzle will fall into place on Wednesday night.

The conference will officially release the full schedule for OU and Texas’ inaugural season in the league on the SEC Network at 6 p.m.

Matchups won’t be revealed, as every school already knows who it will play, but dates will finally be set.

Oklahoma will host Alabama, South Carolina and Tennessee in 2024, while hitting the road to take on Auburn, LSU, Missouri and Ole Miss.

The Sooners will also play Texas in the Cotton Bowl, per usual.

It has already been confirmed that Alabama will make the trip to Norman on Nov. 23, and ESPN previously reported that the Sooners would raise the curtain on SEC play by hosting Tennessee, led by former OU quarterback Josh Heupel, on Sept. 21.

The schedule will also feature a pair of bye weeks, as every school across college football will enjoy a double-bye calendar in 2024.

Fans won’t be the only ones glued to the SEC Network on Wednesday night.

“It’ll be fun to watch,” Oklahoma running back Gavin Sawchuk said after practice on Tuesday. “I’m excited for the transition, an opportunity to play in a new conference and play some new teams. Just think the opportunity is great.”

Personally, Sawchuk is looking forward to learning one date on the schedule in particular.

“One of my best friends goes to Ole Miss,” Sawchuk said. “He doesn’t play there, but he’s a student there. He’s been talking a whole lot of crap. He’s gonna be ready for that one. That one’s gonna be exciting.”

The move to the SEC has been years in the making. Both OU and Texas have recruited with the conference change in mind for a couple of years, but the move into the premier conference in college football helped shape the Sooners’ 2024 roster as well.

Both Billy Bowman and Danny Stutsman, who opted to return to OU next year instead of entering the NFL Draft, acknowledged the opportunity to play a year in the SEC played a role in their decisions to stay.

“I mean, (it meant) quite a bit,” Stutsman said on Tuesday. “We’re going to be playing against the best, man. Excited for that.

“All those games — I can’t wait until they get announced Wednesday. I’m excited for that, man. Looking forward to it.”

Still, the Sooners have one more football game as members of the Big 12.

No. 12 Oklahoma will head to San Antonio on Dec. 28 to square off in the Alamo Bowl against No. 14 Arizona before fully making the transition into the SEC.
