Listed at 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds, Patterson-McDonald is one of the top 3 players in Oklahoma and one of the top 30 rising senior defensive backs in the country according to Rivals. Some of the schools that offered the Jaguars standout who were not included in his final list were Michigan State, Iowa State, Washington State and Indiana.
Patterson-McDonald also mentioned on Twitter that he will be committing on July 31, with the Sooners being the overwhelming favorite to land the local star per On3, Rivals and 247Sports. Patterson-McDonald's father played football at OU during his time in college, and the 4-star defender was on campus for his official visit earlier this month.
At Westmoore's team camp in early June, Patterson-McDonald said that he has a great relationship with the Oklahoma coaching staff, and that he likes the way things are run in Norman. At the Jaguars' spring game in May, Patterson-McDonald told AllSooners that receiving an offer from Brent Venables and company meant a lot to him having grown up in Norman as an OU legacy.
"It meant a lot. ... I grew up in Norman, I'm from Norman, I was born in Norman," Patterson-McDonald said back in May. "It meant a lot. It was a lot of joy, it's a blessing."
At Westmoore's spring game, Patterson-McDonald was wearing a pair of OU gloves, giving Sooner fans a good sign that Oklahoma has a solid chance to land the in-state product.
After Carl Albert running back Xavier Robinson committed to OU last night, he specifically mentioned Patterson-McDonald as a player he wanted to get on board in the Sooners' 2024 class.
"I also want to bring Mykel (Patterson-McDonald) in," Robinson said. "He's a great guy. He's very mature, we always played against each other growing up and I would love to be on a team with him."
Not only would Patterson-McDonald be a great addition to Oklahoma's 2024 defensive back group, but he could help Venables and company land David Stone and Caden Durham. The Westmoore DB is childhood friends with the two highly touted prospects and would serve as a great recruiting tool to help get Stone and Durham to pledge to the Sooners.
