Report: Oklahoma TE to Enter Transfer Portal

The Sooners' senior tight end transferred from Texas A&M just last year and played only one season in Norman.

On Tuesday night, Oklahoma tight end Blake Smith entered the transfer portal after one season in Norman.

That's according to a report from OUInsider.com.

Smith transferred to OU following three years at Texas A&M, where he appeared in six games and caught two passes.

Serving as the Sooners’ backup tight end this season, Smith caught two passes for 30 yards and one touchdown, playing 10 games during his lone year under Jeff Lebby and Joe Jon Finley.

With Smith’s departure and Austin Stogner out of eligibility, Oklahoma will return only one tight end who has caught a pass in Crimson and Cream. Kade McIntyre, a true freshman, caught one pass for 26 yards against Arkansas State before suffering an injury that derailed what could have been a decent year for the Nebraska native.

Despite earning a solid amount of playing time in 2023, Smith likely would be buried on the depth chart next season beneath Southeastern Louisiana transfer Bauer Sharp and incoming freshman Davon Mitchell. If McIntyre is able to stay healthy, his athleticism would have likely helped him become a more versatile tight end for the Sooners’ offense than Smith. OU also expects to have third-year sophomore Kaden Helms available after two years among the walking wounded.

Smith is the second Sooners’ tight end to enter the transfer portal since it opened on Dec. 4, joining redshirt freshman Jason Llewellyn.
