On Saturday, Oklahoma moved to 3-0 in 2023 with a 66-17 drumming of the Tulsa Golden Hurricane.

The Sooners also had a good week off the field as they continued to gain momentum on the recruiting trail.

While OU wasn't able to host prospects this week the same way it would during a home game, Brent Venables and company still made plenty of headway in the 2024 and 2025 classes over the past seven days.

On Sept. 10, 4-star Tulsa NOAH (OK) edge rusher (and all-around athlete) Danny Okoye announced his top three schools, with Oklahoma, Texas and Tennessee making the cut.

Okoye will make his commitment official this week when he announces his decision on Wednesday in Bixby, OK.

Okoye is one of the top 76 players and top eight edge rushers in the nation, according to On3. If the Sooners are able to land the stellar in-state prospect, it would bolster what is already an incredible defensive line group in Oklahoma's 2024 recruiting class.

Currently, 5-star defensive lineman David Stone and 4-star defensive lineman Nigel Smith II have both announced their pledges to OU, giving Okoye a pair of coveted running mates to attack opposing offenses with if the homeschool product was to end up in Norman.

Listed at 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds, Okoye has the build of an SEC defensive lineman and could be a crucial piece in helping the Sooners transition into their new conference.

While Texas is not out of the race yet, it seems that Venables and company are in a good spot to land the stellar edge rusher.

Oklahoma is also in the mix for a talented defensive recruit in the 2025 class. On Sept. 15, 4-star linebacker Kelvion Riggins announced his top 10 schools.

Riggins' list consists of OU, Florida, Texas, Baylor, Michigan, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Georgia, Ohio State and Notre Dame. While the Sooners will likely have a tough time prying Riggins away from some of their SEC counterparts, being in contention for the talented linebacker is still a big positive for the team's defensive coaching staff.

Hailing from Forney High School (TX) in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Riggins is rated the No. 122 player and No. 5 linebacker in his high school class. Prior to the 2023 season, Riggins attended South Oak Cliff (TX).

The Sooners also extended two scholarship offers over the past week.

Last Sunday, Oklahoma offered Mesquite Horn (TX) sophomore quarterback Legend Bey, who visited Norman during OU's week two contest against SMU.

Bey is a great athlete who can beat defenders with his legs and his arm, regularly evading tackles with a shifty spin move or a well-timed cut.

Bey being the first 2026 QB to receive an offer from the Sooners indicates that the Dallas-area product is a high priority for Jeff Lebby and the rest of the team's offensive staff.

Listed at 5-foot-10 and 175 pounds, there is a chance that Oklahoma sees Bey as a wide receiver rather than a quarterback. OU wide receivers coach Emmett Jones has been a big part of Bey's recruitment, signaling that the Sooners may be interested in seeing what the versatile athlete has to offer outside of the backfield.

Despite only being a sophomore, Bey holds offers from Oregon, Baylor, Cincinnati, Texas Tech and others.

On Sept. 13, Jones and company offered 2025 consensus 5-star wide receiver Caleb Cunningham.

Listed at 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds, Cunningham is a junior at Choctaw County (MS) High School in Ackerman, MS. The impressive pass catcher is rated one of the top four wideouts and top 18 players in the nation according to all four major recruiting sites and is the No. 2 wide receiver in the country per On3.

Cunningham holds more than 20 offers, with Alabama, Georgia and a handful of other blue blood programs have already expressed their interest in the 5-star prospect.
