ATLANTA — Oklahoma defensive back Robert Spears-Jennings was one of the team's top defenders in 2024, and he was selected as one of the Sooners' three attendees for SEC Media Days.

As a junior, Spears-Jennings registered 66 tackles, 43 of which were solo tackles. He also notched four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, an interception and a pass deflection.

Spears-Jennings spoke with local and national media outlets about the defense's improvement, his personal growth, how the offense has changed with John Mateer and Ben Arbuckle and what the Sooners took from their disappointing 2024 season.

Head coach Brent Venables, defensive end R Mason Thomas and Mateer, OU's transfer quarterback from Washington State, were the Sooners' three other media day attendees.

Oklahoma opens the season on Saturday, Aug. 30, against Illinois State.

John holds a bachelor's degree in Mass Communications from East Central University in Ada, OK. Born and raised in North Pole, Alaska, John played football and wrote for the school paper at Ada High School in Ada, OK. He enjoys books, movies and travel, and lives in Broken Arrow, OK, with his wife and two kids.
