The Big 12 Conference announced each member's opponents for the 2023-34 basketball season on Thursday.

The Sooners' schedule for the upcoming season includes home-and-away matchups against Cincinnati, Iowa State, Kansas, Oklahoma State and Texas. OU will take on BYU, Houston, Texas Tech and West Virginia at home while meeting Baylor, TCU, Kansas State and UCF on the road.

One of the highlights of this schedule is former OU head coach Kelvin Sampson, who is now the Cougars lead man, returning to Norman for a showdown with his former squad. Additionally, the Sooners will play conference games in two new locations: Orlando and Ohio.

In a press release, the Big 12 outlined how matchups were selected now that the conference has a record 14 members.

"Teams will play five Big 12 opponents twice, then play the other eight conference opponents once, for a total of 18 Conference games," the press release read. "Opponents were selected based on a combination of geography, historical results and a poll of the coaches to best balance the schedule in terms of travel and competitiveness. A full Big 12 schedule will be released at a later date."

The 18-game format is equivalent to the number of conference games Big 12 members played last year. OU went 5-13 in conference matchups during the 2023-24 season.

After going 15-17 in his second year with the program, head coach Porter Moser needs to have a bounce back season to avoid being on the hotseat heading into Oklahoma's inaugural season in the SEC.

Adding four more teams to the Big 12 could make what was already one of the toughest conferences even more difficult. Houston specifically has always maintained a strong basketball program and will be a difficult opponent for the Sooners.
