Sunday Offering: Four More 2025 Prospects Include Oklahoma in Top Schools

The Sooners continue to push for some of the top high school juniors in the region, remaining in contention for a handful of 4-star prospects.

Despite 4-star prospect Jaden Nickens backing off of his pledge to Oklahoma earlier this week, Brent Venables and company still have a strong group in the 2025 recruiting class.

With nine total commits still locked in with OU in the upcoming cycle, Oklahoma still has one of the top six classes in the nation.

Over the past week, the Sooners learned that they were in the mix for four more 2025 prospects, with Nate Roberts, Trystan Haynes, Dawson Merritt and Chase Loftin including OU in their top schools lists.

Roberts, a 4-star tight end from Washington, OK, released his Top 5 on Monday with Oregon, Oklahoma, Penn State, Ohio State and Mississippi making the cut.

Listed at 6-foot-4 and 235 pounds, Roberts has an impressive combination of size and speed that makes him almost impossible to defend at the high school level.

The Warriors' standout is the younger brother of Jake Roberts, who transferred to Norman from Baylor over the offseason. With Jake now at OU, Joe Jon Finley and company should have a better chance at landing Nate.

After leading Washington to its second consecutive state title, Roberts said Finley being promoted to the Sooners' co-offensive coordinator role would factor into his decision.

“It’s a big deal that he got moved up. I mean, I’m super excited for him,” Roberts said in December. “It does kind of change my mind, now that he has a say in throwing the ball to the tight end more. That definitely puts a smile on my face.”

Roberts also has a relationship with 2025 Oklahoma QB commit Kevin Sperry, as the two spent time working out together last summer.

Rated the No. 118 overall player and No. 5 tight end in the country, Roberts was previously committed to Notre Dame, but decommitted from the Fighting Irish in August of 2023.

Roberts is set to take official visits to Penn State, Ohio State and Oklahoma in the coming months.

Haynes, a 4-star defensive back from Carl Albert (OK), announced his Top 6 schools on Tuesday with Alabama, Georgia, Miami, Notre Dame, Texas A&M and OU making the cut.

Listed at 6-foot-2 and 175 pounds, Haynes has long arms and great speed, making him a prototypical SEC cornerback.

Rated the No. 119 overall player and No. 12 cornerback in the 2025 recruiting class, the Titans' star DB is teammates with Sooners commits Trynae Washington, Marcus James and Sperry.

If Jay Valai and company are able to land a commitment from Haynes, he would be the first defensive back to join OU in the upcoming cycle.

In 2023, Haynes helped lead Carl Albert to its sixth state championship victory in seven years.

On Wednesday, Merritt released his Top 10 schools, with Kansas, Michigan, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Florida State, USC, Nebraska, Missouri, Texas A&M and Alabama remaining in contention.

Rated the No. 61 overall prospect and No. 9 linebacker in the country, the Blue Valley (KS) standout would be a huge addition to OU's 2025 class and would join James in Zac Alley's linebacker room.

Listed at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, Merritt is the son of former North Carolina State and Miami Dolphins defender Dave Merritt, who is now the Kansas City Chiefs' defensive backs coach.

The star junior is set to take official visits to Nebraska, Missouri and Oklahoma in June.

On Thursday, Loftin announced his Top 10, with Kansas State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Florida, Missouri, Miami, Penn State, Auburn, Florida State and Texas A&M still in the mix.

Listed at 6-foot-6 and 215 pounds, Loftin picked up his first Division I offer from OU at the Brent Venables Elite Camp last June.

The athletic pass catcher has good speed and mobility for someone of his size and stature, and is able to drop his hips to get in and out of breaks much better than most tight ends.

Rated the No. 268 overall prospect and No. 15 tight end in the nation, the Omaha, NE, product is the younger brother of Kansas State tight end Brayden Loftin.

Offers extended

Venables and company also extended offers to two high school prospects this week.

On Friday, OU offered Elgin (OK) offensive lineman Antoni Ogumoro, who recently moved to the Sooner State.

A 3-star prospect, Ogumoro holds offers from Tennessee, Oklahoma State, Missouri, North Carolina, Iowa State, Kansas State and others.

Listed at 6-foot-5 and 290 pounds, Ogumoro would be the third offensive lineman to join Oklahoma's 2025 class if he commits to Bill Bedenbaugh and company.

Later that day, 2026 Cross County (AR) defensive lineman Danny Beale picked up an offer from OU. Listed at 6-foot-3 and 315 pounds, Beale holds offers from Arkansas, Georgia, Texas A&M, USC and others.
