Sunday Offering: Oklahoma Hosts Two Big-Time Prospects at Spring Practice

After landing two pledges in the 2025 recruiting class, the Sooners had two talented recruits on campus over the weekend.

Brent Venables and company have had a busy week on the recruiting trail.

With two commitments, a handful of prospects visiting campus and Oklahoma's coaching staff extending multiple offers to high school prospects, the Sooners have once again been busy building the future of their program as the active roster continues to go through spring practice.

With OU's Spring Game less than a week away, Venables and company will have plenty of prospects in Norman next Saturday as well.

Commitments

Despite missing out on 4-star tight end Nate Roberts, Oklahoma still received two pledges over the past seven days, both coming on April 10.

First, 4-star cornerback Maliek Hawkins chose the Sooners over Texas, Arkansas and Mississippi State.

Hailing from Frisco Emerson (TX), Hawkins is listed at 6-foot-2 and rated the No. 32 cornerback in the nation according to Rivals. The son of former OU and Green Bay Packers defensive back Michael Hawkins Sr. and the younger brother of Sooners' freshman quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr., the 2025 defensive back is set to become the third player in his family to don the Crimson and Cream.

With good length, size, speed and physicality, Hawkins has the makings of a prototypical SEC cornerback. The Dallas-area product is the first cornerback and second defensive back to join Oklahoma's upcoming recruiting class after Bauxite (AR) safety Marcus Wimberly announced his commitment to Brandon Hall and company last weekend.

Later that day, 4-star defensive lineman Trent Wilson announced his commitment to the Sooners.

Listed at 6-foot-3 and 270-pounds, Wilson is rated the No. 94 overall prospect and No. 9 defensive lineman in the 2025 recruiting class, according to On3. Hailing from Maryland, Wilson spent his junior season at Dr. Henry Wise High School (MD), the same school that produced current Sooners' wideout Jalil Farooq.

Wilson adds to what already had the makings of a solid d-line group, joining Wagoner (OK) edge rusher Alexander Shieldnight and Lee's Summit North interior defensive lineman Ka'Mori Moore. With three different skill sets between Wilson, Shieldnight and Moore, Todd Bates and Miguel Chavis have already assembled a fierce front in the upcoming cycle.

With the additions of Hawkins and Wilson, Venables and company are already up to 13 commits in the 2025 recruiting class, ranking No. 5 in the nation according to Rivals.

Campus Visits

With spring practice in full swing at OU, the Sooners have hosted a large handful of high school prospects on recruiting visits. Over the weekend, Oklahoma had two big names on campus, with 5-star 2025 offensive lineman Michael Fasusi and 4-star 2026 quarterback Dereon Coleman both attending Friday's practice session.

Playing for Lewisville (TX) after moving to America in middle school, Fasusi has developed into the No. 11 overall prospect and No. 3 offensive tackle in the 2025 cycle, per Rivals. Listed at 6-foot-5 and 300 pounds, the Farmers' standout has great size and footwork.

On Friday, Fasusi was seen in Norman at one of Oklahoma's spring practices talking to OU freshman offensive lineman Daniel Akinknumi, who is sidelined with a lower leg injury. Following practice, the 5-star prospect posted a photo of himself alongside multiple members of the Sooners' coaching staff.

Coleman, who also holds an offer from Seth Littrell and company, was seen talking to the Sooners' offensive coordinator at the beginning of practice.

Rated a 4-star recruit, Coleman is ranked as the No. 132 overall prospect and No. 4 quarterback in the 2026 class, according to Rivals. Hailing from Jones (FL), the 6-foot-1 signal caller told AllSooners in February that OU was his "dream school".

During his visit to Norman, Coleman and his trainer, Baylin Trujillo, also posted photos of their time on campus.

Offers Extended

The Sooners also extended offers to two high school prospects on Friday.

In the 2026 cycle, 4-star defensive back J'Vari Flowers picked up an offer from Jay Valai and company after being on campus to observe spring practice. Rated the No. 67 overall player and No. 7 cornerback in his class, Flowers is a big-time prospect out of Northwestern High School (FL) in Miami.

The coveted prospect seemed to enjoy his time in the Sooner State, which is a good sign for OU's defensive staff.

Lewisville (TX) 2025 center Sean Hutton earned a preferred walk-on offer from Bill Bedenbaugh and company on a visit to Norman with Fasusi, his high school teammate.
