Former Cowboy Forward Enters Transfer Portal After Two Seasons at Georgia

After a promising freshman season at OSU, Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe is still looking to reach his potential.

A former Cowboy is in the transfer portal again.

Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe announced on Monday he is entering the transfer portal after two seasons at Georgia. Moncrieffe transferred from Oklahoma State after the 2022 season but never found his role last season in Athens.

In his two seasons with the Bulldogs, Moncrieffe played in 44 games, starting 30. Most of Moncrieffe’s action came in the 2023 season when he started in 26 of his 28 games.

As a junior, Moncrieffe averaged 5.5 points and 5.1 rebounds while shooting 52.7% from the floor. His best game as a Bulldog came early in the 2022-23 season when he scored 15 points on 6-of-6 shooting against Notre Dame. Although he had some other solid performances at Georgia, most of Moncrieffe’s most notable performances came as a Cowboy.

Coming into Stillwater as part of the same freshman class as Cade Cunningham and Rondel Walker, Moncrieffe showed his potential. In helping OSU to its only NCAA Tournament appearance under Mike Boynton, Moncrieffe played in 28 games, starting 14.

In 2020-21, he averaged career-highs with nine points and 5.3 rebounds. That season, Moncrieffe had the only 20-point game of his career so far, scoring 22 on 11-of-17 shooting and adding 12 rebounds at Iowa State.

Despite his contributions as a freshman, which included a 10-point, nine-rebound performance in an NCAA Tournament win against Liberty, Moncrieffe’s role decreased dramatically in his second season.

With his minutes dropping to only 14.8 per game, Moncrieffe started only seven games. Still playing in 30 of OSU’s matchups, Moncrieffe averaged 4.2 points and 3.9 rebounds.

However, with the disappointment of OSU’s postseason ban and Moncrieffe’s decreased role, he left for the SEC. Although his time at Georgia did not work out, Moncrieffe’s rebounding presence could provide a boost for his next team.
