Oklahoma State kicked off the Bedlam Series for the 2026-27 season and things did not get off to a good start for the Cowgirls.

Their 2-0 loss to the Sooners was a complete flip of their first two games of the season as the Cowgirls (1-1-1) dominated on the stat sheet but only came away with a win and a tie.
This time not only did Oklahoma State lose, but for the first time this season they were the ones dominated on the stat sheet.

The Sooners outshot the Cowgirls, 13-5, and had five shots on goal to OSU’s none. In addition, OU had eight corner kicks to OSU’s four as Sooners Kate McCallister and Kennedy Kaiser each scored a goal. The only area where Oklahoma State had an edge was in fouls, 13-12. It was OU’s first win in Stillwater since 2016.

How does this play into OSU’s hopes of reaching the Big 12 Tournament later this year?

Looking Ahead to OSU’s Season

This was Oklahoma State’s first game against a high major opponent. OSU’s first two games this season were against Sam Houston, which plays in Conference USA, and Stephen F Austin, which plays in the Southland. Both are solid programs in their respective conferences but certainly not at Oklahoma’s level.

In those two games the Cowgirls dominated the stat sheet even though their game with Sam Houston turned out to be a tie. The Cowgirls outshot the Bearkats, 24-4, led in shots on goal (8-2) and corner kicks (8-1). Sam Houston even committed 15 fouls while OSU had only eight.

Against SFA, Cowgirls dominated in shots (19-8), shots on goal (10-4) and corner kicks (13-3). They also had just six penalties to SFA’s 12.

This was a different game altogether. The win improved OU to 3-0-0 this season. The Sooners had wins over SFA’s Southland rivals, Northwestern State and East Texas A&M by a combined 11-0. OU went 10-5-4 last season and beat Oklahoma State in Norman last season, 4-1.

The Cowgirls still have a long-time edge in the series. They are 17-4-2 all time in Bedlam games on their home field and 32-12-5 in the overall series. But this result, contrasted with their first two games, shows the Cowgirls have a long way to go before they're finely tuned for their Big 12 opener against TCU in mid-September. It also makes their upcoming game key.

Oklahoma State's only other power conference opponent is Thursday at Mississippi State. It will be OSU’s last chance to measure itself against a team on its talent level before conference play. The Cowgirls need to take advantage of the opportunity to steal a win at an SEC environment and put their Bedlam lost behind them.
