Ole Miss Ace Hunter Elliott Undergoes Tommy John Surgery

Ole Miss Rebels pitcher Hunter Elliott has undergone Tommy John surgery and will miss the remainder of the season

The national title defense for the Ole Miss Rebels has gone far from expected, with the Rebels sitting 24-21 on the season, and 5-16 in SEC play.

And on Thursday, things got even tougher for the Rebels, with their top pitcher, Hunter Elliott, being lost for the season after undergoing Tommy John Surgery, the school announced.

“After further examination, it was decided that Hunter would need Tommy John surgery," the statement read. "He had the surgery done yesterday, everything went well and he is recovering.”

Elliott has been sidelined for most of the season, pitching just six innings in two outings, with the sophomore missing two months in between those starts.

The injury, which was originally diagnosed as a sprained UCL, occurred during Elliott's initial outing of the season against Delaware. Elliott attempted to give it a go against No. 1 LSU on April 22 but failed to make it out of the first inning.

That was the only complete inning thrown by Elliott on Saturday, as the 2022 Freshman All-American quickly reached his 50-pitch target in the second inning after loading the bases before being replaced by sophomore RHP Mason Nichols. Elliott finished the start with two hits, five earned runs, five walks, three strikeouts, and a 10.50 ERA.
