Cal names Devon Modster as Starting QB vs. Oregon; Chase Garbers 'Out Indefinitely'

The California Golden Bears announced on Monday night that starting quarterback Chase Garbers is out indefinitely with a shoulder injury, and he will miss Saturday's game against the Oregon Ducks.
In his place, Devon Modster will look to shoulder the load.
Modster transferred to Cal from UCLA in 2018, and he went 5-for-14 for 23 yards in relief last Friday against Arizona State.
“Anytime you lose somebody due to injury you feel for them, especially a guy that’s put in that much work,” California coach JoshWilcox said, via Oregon Live. “Chase was the last game at Ole Miss and really the first half of this (Arizona State) game was playing his best football really since he’s been here, really in a rhythm. So you really feel for him there. It’s unfortunate and just one of those things.”
So far this season, Garber was responsible for leading the Golden Bears to a 4-0 record and a No. 15 ranking. He was 68-for-115 for 952 yards with eight touchdowns and two interceptions and had 54 carries for 127 yards this season. Now, his team will be without him on Saturday as Cal attempts to slow down the Ducks offense while attempting to find a crease in the highly-touted defense.
It's not an impossible challenge, but it sure will be a steep hill to climb.
