Dan Lanning Breaks Down Oregon's Recruiting Process With Pat McAfee

In this story:
On Friday, the Oregon Ducks got a major commitment from four-star edge rusher Rashad Streets, who explained his decision on The Pat McAfee show on ESPN. In addition to Streets joining the program, Oregon coach Dan Lanning spoke about the Ducks' recruiting strategy.
Rashad Streets Explains Oregon Commitment
"Well I would definitely say the consistency of the program," Streets said about choosing the Ducks during his commitment reveal on the Pat McAfee Show. "They did a great job of recruiting me. They were one of my first big offers and they've stuck with me ever since, never steered me wrong, always told me the truth. I feel like they weren't trying to sell me something."
"The grass is green in Eugene so we're rocking with it," said Streets' father, Rashad Streets Sr. to McAfee.

Dan Lanning gets Real About Rashad Streets Commitment
After Streets and his family celebrated with McAfee, the ESPN host welcomed on Oregon coach Dan Lanning, who elaborated on the type of players the Ducks seek, alluding to Streets' commitment.
"It's a great day to be a Duck," Lanning said while joining the show.
"We dig. I mean, we dig" Lanning said about the Oregon program. "I mean, obviously you have traits that we're looking for and obviously we're looking for elite football players but you want to know the family. You want to know what makes a person tick. You want to know make sure that they're obsessed with football. And we've been really fortunate to bring a lot of guys here that are obsessed with football."

Dan Lanning Dishes on 2026 Motivation
Swiftly turning from the recruiting talk, McAfee asked Lanning what the current mood of the 2026 Ducks squad contains leading up to the spring game on April 25 with the weight of last season's 56-22 Peach Bowl loss to the national champion Indiana Hoosiers still looming over the program.
"Hungry. Yeah, we've got a hungry group," Lanning said. "I'm excited. We're about to hit practice five here in spring. And we love being on the field, right. We love getting in the work. So, these guys have really pushed."
"We've got a lot of guys that made a commitment to come back, right. They know they've got something in the tank, they want something a little bit more. And we've got some dynamic gamechangers that have joined our program as well so I'm excited to see what these guys do but they've been working extremely hard and there's a lot of work to be done before we get to that season," Lanning added.

Searching for Those "Freak" Athletes
Speaking of those dynamic players bringing change, McAfee also asked Lanning about his recruitment mindset to bring talented players to Eugene, Oregon and develop them into the NFL Draft ready players like outgoing tight end Kenyon Sadiq, who spent his entire career with the Ducks before becoming a rumored first round pick.
"I mean really for us, when you got to our locker room it's a melting pot of people from all over the country and that's part of what makes it work," Lanning said. "It's not about picking most conveinient. It's about picking the best. And when we are able to get the best players and they develop like they have for us over their four years here I think you get a real special recipe to get success."
