Dan Lanning is being tested early in his tenure as head coach for the Oregon Ducks

After moving quickly to assemble his first ever coaching staff in December 2021 before the early signing period, he's seen a number of top assistants get hired by other football programs at a variety of levels.

Here's a brief rundown of the new names that have joined the Oregon Football staff in Eugene and those who have departed for new opportunities.

New Additions

Will Stein-Offensive Coordinator/QBs

Stein takes over for Kenny Dillingham after spending recent seasons at UTSA. He wasted no time helping on the recruiting trail, flipping longtime Baylor QB commit Austin Novosad.

A'lique Terry-Offensive line

Terry comes back to Eugene after spending time on Mario Cristobal's staff. He was slated to join Lanning's staff before taking a job with the Minnesota Vikings as an assistant defensive line coach.

Mike Cavanaugh-Assistant Offensive Line

Cavanaugh brings more than 30 years of experience coaching the offensive line with him to Eugene from previous stops with the San Diego Chargers, Oregon State Beavers, Nebraska Cornhuskers and Syracuse Orange.

Antonio Parks-Offensive Analyst

Parks is another addition from UTSA. He's a younger analyst, wrapping up his final year of college football as a player in San Antonio in 2021. He has strong recruiting ties in Texas and his home state of Louisiana.

Chris Hampton-Safeties/Co-Defensive Coordinator

Hampton comes over from Tulane, where he served as the DC in 2022. He hails from Tennessee and should help Oregon keep a strong recruiting presence in the Southeast.

Brian Michalowksi-Inside Linebackers

Michalowski reunites with Dan Lanning after serving on the same coaching staffs at Georgia, Memphis and Arizona State. He helped coach the linebackers at Oregon State in 2022 and was previously at Colorado as well.

Cutter Leftwich-Assistant Offensive Line Coach

Lefwitch stays in the Pac-12 after spending the 2022 season with the UCLA Bruins who had one of the best offenses in the country.

Dante Bartee-Defensive Assistant

Bartee joins Dan Lanning's staff as a defensive assistant after spending the past two seasons as the defensive coordinator at Ottawa University of the NAIA ranks in Kansas.

Osman Kamara-Director of Player Development

Kamara joins Lanning's staff after serving as the associate director of student-athlete development at West Virginia in 2022.

Karl Holmes Jr.-Assistant Director of Player Development

Holmes is a Pasadena, CA native and coached at John Muir High School. He played at Arizona State when Lanning was a graduate assistant.

Departures

Kenny Dillingham-Offensive Coordinator/QBs

The maestro of Oregon's high-scoring and explosive attack jumped on the chance to return to his home state. He gets his first shot at being a head coach after being just about as successful as he could have hoped in Eugene.

Adrian Klemm-Offensive Line/Associate Head Coach

Klemm returned to the college ranks after coaching on the Steelers and like Dillingham was a massive success. He fielded one of the best offensive lines in the country and beat out USC for Josh Conerly Jr., the top offensive tackle in his class. His return to the Patriots hurts the Ducks but he set the position up for success before his departure.

Matt Powledge-Safeties/Co-Defensive Coordinator

Powledge only spent one year with the Ducks and the safeties were a very mixed bag. Even so he was a big part of the recruiting efforts in Texas and returns home to be the DC for Dave Aranda at Baylor.

Jordan Somerville-Assistant QBs

Somerville was an under-the-radar addition in Lanning's first year who had a big impact. He's an incredibly bright football mind and was a grinder on the recruiting trail in his home state of Arizona.

Jake Long-Defensive Graduate Assistant/Inside linebackers

Long came over from Alabama to coach the inside linebackers and brought the championship blueprint with him from his time with the tide. Noah Sewell regressed in 2022 but Long was still a solid coach and now he's back with the Tide.

Viane Talamaivao-Offensive Graduate Assistant

Coach V was a very underappreciated piece of the staff. He was a massive success on the recruiting trail and was slated to take over the Northern Arizona offensive before Troy Taylor hired him to coach the O-line at Stanford.

Trent Figg-Senior offensive analyst

Figg was hired as the head coach in program history at Calvin University in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Greg Jones-Defensive analyst

Jones was a Missouri native that went way back with Lanning and was a dominant high school coach before coming to Eugene. Now he's the defensive coordinator back home at the University of Central Missouri.
