In this story:

2024 Melissa (Tex.) High School tight end Jackson Ford has decommitted from the Oregon Ducks. He announced his decision over social media on Sunday evening.

"After lots of prayer and conversation, I've decided to decommit from University of Oregon," Ford penned in a note shared over social media. "I appreciate everyone for all of the support throughout this process. I'm excited to say that my recruitment is 100% back open! All love."

Ford had been committed to Dan Lanning and the Ducks since April and his decommittment is the first for Oregon in the 2024 recruiting cycle. His decision to reopen his recruitment comes on the heels of the Ducks' first loss of the season, a 36-33 heartbreaker in Seattle to Washington.

He's rated a 3-star (0.8614) recruit by the 247Sports Composite. The same system ranks him the No. 1,104 player nationally, the No. 61 tight end and the No. 162 recruit in Texas.

The 6-foot-5, 230-pound tight end holds 13 reported scholarship offers according to his 247Sports recruiting profile including the likes of Houston, Texas Tech and Boise State.

With Ford no longer in the fold Oregon holds two tight end commitments in 2024, including North Medford (Ore.) standout A.J. Pugliano and Manvel (Tex.) tight end Kade Caton.

Tight end should be a priority position for coach Drew Mehringer and the rest of the coaching staff, as juniors Terrance Ferguson and Patrick Herbert could choose to test the NFL Draft waters after the 2023 season.

Fortunately for the Ducks, over the weekend they picked up two new 247Sports crystal ball predictions to land 2024 Orem (Ut.) tight end/wide receiver Roger Saleapaga II, who was on campus in Eugene earlier this fall to visit for the Colorado game.

Oregon's 2024 recruiting class now ranks No. 10 nationally with 23 verbal commitments according to the 247Sports rankings.
