CLASS IMPACT: Ducks Land All-American WR Jack Ressler

Breaking down the latest commitment for the Oregon Ducks in the 2024 recruiting class.

The Oregon Football program received more good news on Monday afternoon as Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei wide receiver Jack Ressler announced his commitment to the Ducks.

He's the second commitment in the last week, hopping in the fold following Clackamas (Ore.) interior offensive lineman Devin Brooks. We're breaking down what his commitment means for the Ducks and how he may factor into the bigger picture.

Recruiting impact

With Ressler in the fold, the Ducks now have four wide receivers in the 2024 class. Three of them come from the Golden State as Jordan Anderson (Newport Harbor) and Dillon Greshmam (San Jacinto) will also play in Eugene.

Add in Philadelphia native Tyseer Denmark and I really like the balance in this group. Ressler's commitment adds to Oregon's pipeline in Santa Ana as the coaching staff continues to land highly-coveted players from Mater Dei, a perennial top-five program nationally.

This may just be the start of Monarch players choosing the Ducks, as Oregon is also heavily recruiting Brandon Baker, the nation's number one offensive tackle, Aydin Breland, the top defensive lineman on the West Coast, as well as Nate Frazier, Carlos Locklyn's top running back target this cycle.

The Ducks continue to tear up the West Coast and this was also a very welcome recruiting win in Southern California after missing out on USC cornerback commit Dakoda Fields.

As for what's next, room is getting tight at wide receiver and I think they'll probably take one more wide receiver. Some of the top candidates that could take that spot include Ryan PellumJeremiah McClellan and Gatlin Bair, just to name a few.

All three of those recruits will be on campus this month for official visits.

Evaluation

Ressler doesn't jump off the page from a height and weight standpoint, but to be fair, not a lot of Oregon's targets or commits at the position do.

I like his release off the line of scrimmage and his ability to work in the short to intermediate game. He creates good separation with his routes and isn't afraid to go over the middle when his team needs him to.

The newest Oregon commit has great hands and his coaches put him on the same level of Mater Dei great and Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown in that regard.

Ideally you'd like to see more yards after catch and deep-ball ability from Ressler, but I don't think that's the kind of receiver he is. Every class and team needs someone who can be consistent and reliable and I think that's what Ressler brings to the table.

Outlook at Oregon

The wide receiver room has seen quite a bit of change in Eugene just since the end of last season. Three new pass catchers enter the mix from the transfer portal and two All-Americans join from the high school ranks.

The Ducks already have three other wide receivers in the fold along with Ressler, so there's going to be plenty of competition for snaps. Fortunately for Ressler competition is nothing new to him, so that was clearly something he was aware before making this decision.

He may not be as physically imposing as other receivers in his class but he's got a solid tool kit at the position and a great work ethic. It's going to be a tough battle to see the field but I think Oregon's newest commit could find himself in the rotation at some point in his college career.
