On Monday, Oregon picked up a commitment from UTSA transfer cornerback Kameryn Alexander.

He broke down his decision with Ducks Digest and shared part of his football story.

"Because of the people," he said of his decision. "Also the environment is just amazing. Not many people travel to that side, especially travel to Oregon and they don't realize how great of an atmosphere they have.

"The coaches are genuine, it's just a place to be. And it's just an all around good situation for me to even consider going there."

Assistant wide receivers coach Antonio Parks, who joined the Oregon staff prior to the 2023 season, came over from UTSA and played a big role in his recruitment.

"With AP, he was the guy who pulled up my film for me to go to UTSA, so the coach could see. So when he got to Oregon, he did the same thing and he wanted me to come to Oregon."

The newest Duck got to build a strong connection with head coach Dan Lanning and the rest of the Oregon staff during his official visit this weekend.

"Coach Lanning's a cool guy. One of the most genuine guys you'll ever meet," Alexander said. "Tosh Lupoi, he's a great guy, smooth talking guy. All the coaches on the coaching staff really care about the players so I'm all for people caring about the players, because at the end of the day I want to get taken care of."

Before he committed he wanted to see Eugene for himself, so he hopped on a plane bound for the Northwest to see all that Oregon had to offer.

"I was there for three days," he said of his official visit. "Got to see a lot of stuff around the city, had a lot of stuff I was interested in as far as viewing the facilities and stuff like that.

"I didn't know what to expect because I had never been to Oregon. I have never looked up any of Oregon's facilities or anything like that and it was just amazing when I pulled up and saw all the stuff that was possible to be in a football team."

Alexander drew interest from across the country but highlighted Florida, Kentucky, TCU and West Virginia as other schools that were "hitting me up constantly."

He'll join a cornerback room that's headlined by Jahlil Florence, Dontae Manning and Rodrick Pleasant among others, but also welcoming plenty of new talent from the 2024 recruiting class.

"I feel like I fit in well," he said of Oregon's defense. "With them having a guy declaring that they had as a starter, I feel I could come in and help fill his role that he had. Just being able to have the opportunity to even come and compete for a spot it just a blessing itself.

"I will say the defense is pretty dominant. A great piece of the defense is coming back and I just hope to connect with those guys and and hopefully have a championship season with them."

He's ready to bring his coverage skills and speed to Eugene and described himself as a player.

"So my favorite player growing up was Tyrann Mathieu, so I kind of try to imitate my game as far as how he plays," Alexander said. "As far as on the field, I'm just willing to do my job to get the win for the team. Just a complete shut-down corner. One side of the field is always closed down when I'm on the field and I expect to bring that to Oregon."

Alexander plans to return to Eugene to enroll at the University of Oregon later this week.

He ended the interview with a message to Duck fans.

"I just want them to know that I'm willing to put in the work. I just feel like I'm one of those guys that's gonna never quit on the fans. They're here every week to see something, so they're gonna get that out of me every week. I'm gonna work hard enough to be able to showcase that and come out with a victory every week."
