In this story:

Oregon's defensive line is widely viewed as the strength of Dan Lanning and Tosh Lupoi's defense heading into the 2023 season.

Numerous veterans return, and the coaches injected even more talent along the front seven by adding names like Jordan Burch from South Carolina and true freshman Matayo Uiagalelei--an All-American edge rusher from reigning national champion Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco.

Even so, Dan Lanning and the Ducks are leaving no stone unturned this offseason.

Oregon has shown interest in former Ole Miss defensive lineman Tywone Malone, according to a report from Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports.

Other schools that have reached out include Miami, Ohio State, Penn State and USC.

Malone stands at 6'4" and weighs 300 pounds. He spent two seasons in Oxford and played in 14 games, recording 13 total tackles, six solo tackles, two sacks and two passes defended.

He played in just one game as a true freshman, but came on strong in 2022 and played in 13 games. Before college ball, Malone signed with the Rebels as a high four-star (0.9707 per 247Sports Composite) recruit in the 2021 class. He was also an Under Amour All-American selection.

He's originally from Jamesburg, New Jersey and played for national powerhouse Bergen Catholic during his high school years.

Jordan Burch is the only defensive lineman the Ducks have added from the transfer portal this offseason and he was viewed as the top pass rusher available in the college ranks. Tony Tuioti and Tosh Lupoi also signed a number of impressive high school recruits along the defensive line in the 2023 recruiting class including Under Armour All-American Ashton Porter and My'Keil Gardner, who's already enrolled in Eugene and had a strong spring.

With players like Brandon Dorlus, Casey Rogers and Popo Aumavae holding down the interior of the Oregon defensive line, it doesn't appear that Malone would fill a position of need, but adding another 300-pounder that has experience playing the game at high level could help the Ducks beef up at the point of attack.

Dan Lanning added former Ole Miss safety Tysheem Johnson from the transfer portal this offseason, and his versatility had him in the headlines during spring practice.
