Torres' Take: What's Next for Oregon Football Recruiting After Landing Brayden Platt

Oregon's recruiting rankings got a boost on Monday, as the Ducks landed a commitment from 2024 Yelm (Wash.) linebacker Brayden Platt, moving them from No. 14 to No. 11 on the 247Sports Rankings.

As we all know recruiting never stops, so the attention quickly turns to what's next for Dan Lanning and the Ducks on the trail. Here's my latest thoughts and analysis on Oregon's top remaining targets in the 2024 class.

Jason Brown Jr.

I logged my prediction for Oregon to land the talented back out of Seattle last week. I'm not moving on that pick right now, but I did mention that I thought Oregon would weigh their options in the portal and that could result in the back trending to another school, namely Michigan State.

On Tuesday's Brown was predicted to Michigan State by Justin Hopkins of On3's ScoopDuck.com. I'm not going to change my pick right now, but that pick would seem to lend itself to the Ducks possibly cooling off on their top uncommitted high school prospect.

Brandon Baker

The Ducks have been linked to the 5-star offensive tackle out of Mater Dei for a long time and it appears that a decision may not be far off. I spoke with Baker a few weeks ago after Mater Dei beat Corona Centennial to open the 2023 season and Texas really seems like the biggest threat to Oregon right now. He'll visit Nebraska later this month but is also hearing from Ohio State and Tennesee.

I don't feel like Oregon is the clear cut favorite, but getting him back on campus for an official visit could help them solidify their standing with the nation's top offensive tackle. He said he's looking to decide "sometime between September and October," which means we should know the answer sooner or later. With no decision date solidified, the Ducks could try to get him on campus for that official visit sooner rather than later.

Aydin Breland

The five-star defensive lineman out of Mater Dei might just be the top uncommitted target for the Ducks. I spoke with Breland the same night I spoke with Baker and he mentioned cutting things down to a top four.

I think that will be Oregon, Georgia, Texas A&M and Miami, as he checked off most of his official visits this summer. It sounds like a decision is not far off and he said no visits were planned, but didn't rule out one popping up. I think Oregon might be a school that's flying under the radar and he could be a trick Dan Lanning has up his sleeve after missing on some guys this summer.

Eddy Pierre-Louis

The four-star interior offensive lineman out of Tampa (Fla.) Catholic announced his top five schools over the weekend and Oregon made the cut. They're battling the likes of Oklahoma, UCF, Miami and Texas A&M.

He has yet to take his official visit to Oregon, so expect him to get back on campus for a game this fall. Oklahoma has had a lot of rumored momentum in his recruitment, but Gus Malzahn has the Knights recruiting at a level I don't think they've ever seen and shouldn't be counted out.

Mario Cristobal and Alex Mirabal have the pedigree to make Miami contenders for any offensive lineman and Texas A&M always stays in the conversation with elite recruits. We'll see when he sets his commitment date, but we know A'lique Terry and the Ducks project to be in the thick of it until the end.

Solomon Williams

Staying in the Sunshine State, Williams is likely Oregon's top remaining target on the EDGE after missing out on Elijah Rushing this summer. The Ducks have frequently been mentioned in the company of Alabama, which shows you they aren't the only school that sees his potential.

Williams has visited Eugene before, but if they want to land his commitment they'll likely need to get him back out on campus. He has a top seven of Oregon, Alabama, UCF, Texas, Ohio State, Clemson and Texas A&M but hasn't set a decision date.

Sione Laulea

The nation's No. 1 recruit further solidified Oregon as a legitimate contender when he placed the Ducks in his top three alongside Miami and USC last month.

He has the length and speed Demetrice Martin has been prioritizing in his defensive backs and as an East Bay guy Tosh Lupoi will make sure to keep the Ducks in solid standing. Oregon has built a pipeline to the College of San Mateo after signing former Ducks Bennett Williams and George Moore, and he should be a recruit that's fairly easy to get on campus given distance. I think this one could come down to Oregon and USC.

Jericho Johnson

The four-star defensive lineman out of Northern California has a top four of Oregon, USC, Utah and Washington and the Ducks may be lurking quietly here. The staff is as well connected as any in California and Johnson would be a great addition along with Xadavien Sims and Tionne Gray

He doesn't have a decision date yet but is a priority to get back on campus.

Jordan Seaton

Oregon is reportedly set to host the IMG Academy offensive lineman for a visit when they face USC in November and this is about as big a name as you'll find at the position this cycle.

The way the offensive line cycle is shaping up, it looks like they'll need some help on the interior, and Seaton is one of the best in the country as he sits just outside of five-star status. The Ducks haven't had much success recruiting the national powerhouse, but you've got to take your shot and they're doing just that.
