Where Will 5-Star EDGE Elijah Rushing Commit?
2024 Tucson (Ariz.) Salpointe Catholic EDGE Elijah Rushing is set to make his college commitment on Thursday July 6 at 2 pm PT on the 247Sports YouTube channel.
The 6-foot-5, 251-pound defender will choose from a top four of Arizona, Notre Dame, Oregon and Tennesse.
Rushing is rated a five-star (0.9880) recruit according to the 247Sports Composite. The same system ranks him the No. 27 player nationally, the No. 3 edge rusher and the No. 2 recruit in Arizona.
The top defensive recruit in Arizona garnered 37 reported scholarship offers during his recruiting process and took official visits to Arizona, Notre Dame, Oregon, Tennessee and UCLA leading up to his decision.
Oregon has a need at edge rusher given the lack of a consistent pass rush in recent years, especially following the departure of first-round NFL Draft pick Kayvon Thibodeaux prior to the 2022 season. The Ducks have one verbal commitment at EDGE in 2024 Yuma (Ariz.) Catholic standout Jaxson Jones.
So where will Rushing commit?
I logged a previous prediction for Oregon to land Rushing, but today I'm going to change that pick.
I'm now predicting that Rushing will commit to the Arizona Wildcats on Thursday.
Explaining the Pick
I know I'm not the first to log this pick, but recent intel I've received has led me to believe that Arizona will be the call when the time comes on Thursday.
They've stayed consistent in their approach this entire time and they have the hometown hero pitch that seems to be resonating. Add that to the chance to play with his older brother in Tucson and there's plenty of appeal.
Jedd Fisch is trying his best to keep top talent home after Duce Robinson (USC) and Anthony Lucas (Texas A&M, transferred to USC) both opted to play their college ball out of the state.
Rushing would be a big addition for any program, but even more so for Arizona, as the Wildcats typically don't get this caliber of recruit unless it's on the hardwood for Basketball.
Oregon has additional names on their board they will turn up the heat on in the 2024 class.
