Pitt Growing Into Dangerous Road Team

The Pitt Panthers have flourished in their road games all season.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers continue to assert themselves as road warriors following yet another key victory away from home in ACC play against the NC State Wolfpack on Wednesday.

Jeff Capel spoke about the importance of Pitt's win in a tough road environment and how they prevailed against a feisty opponent in the Wolfpack.

"I’m really proud of our guys," Capel said. "A real big, big-time road win in the ACC, something we don’t take for granted. We beat a really good team, a team that’s very good in this building. I thought we did it with toughness and grit and all of those things."

The Panthers now own the second-best overall road record in the conference at 5-2, trailing only North Carolina, who sits at 5-1. Pitt's road record against ACC opponents is now 3-2 while their home record is 9-5 overall and 3-4 in conference play.

The most impressive aspect of the Panthers' road record when compared to their output at home is that all five of their wins have come against power conference opponents while just the three against ACC foes count among their nine total at the Petersen Events Center.

Pitt's season turnaround began with its improbable upset win over No. 7 Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium, which sparked a stretch that has seen it take five of their last six games and three of their last four on the road as it has gradually climbed back up the ACC standings.

The Panthers' confidence appears to be growing with each passing road game as they perform time and time again in hostile environments against formidable opponents. The maturity of the group, especially as it pertains to the team's young stars in Bub Carrington and Jaland Lowe, has played a major part in the team's ability to execute in late-game situations and stay within themselves in pressure-filled settings.

With three Quad 1 road games remaining on the schedule, it behooves Pitt to keep tapping into the energy and edge it has played with in its recent contests. The Panthers, if they continue to play the way that they have, should feel confident going into each of those remaining games based on the fact that they've proven they can hang with essentially any opponent in a road environment.
