Gamecocks Mercy Rule Bulldogs in Game 2 of Double Header

South Carolina Baseball beat Georgia 12-2 on Saturday, with help from an explosive seven-run 5th Inning, led by Evan Petry.

Following an electric 5-4 victory in game one behind South Carolina's ninth-inning rally, the Gamecocks clinched their SEC series opener in blowout fashion, defeating the Bulldogs 12-2.

Senior Noah Hall pitched another great game in the win, allowing just two runs through 7 innings, including a three-up, three-down stretch in the 4th. His efforts advanced him to a perfect 3-0 on the year. While Hall and the Gamecock fielders kept scoring to a minimum, this win was led by the team's explosive batting performance spearheaded by freshman superstar Evan Petry. Petry went off at the plate, hitting a no-doubt 2-run blast in the 3rd, followed by a 3-run homer in the 5th. His five RBI outing followed up a game-one performance where he hit a solo home run, giving him three total on the afternoon. His incredible day was pivotal in both Gamecock victories, leading to the notion he'll be honored as SEC Freshman of the Week.

However, Petry was not the only Gamecock to put on a show at the plate. All of Mark Kingston's players contributed to the 12-run victory, with every batter recording a hit or scoring a run. Will McGillis and Braylen Wimmer were especially effective against Georgia's pitchers, combining for five of the ten Gamecock RBIs.

The victory moves the 16th-ranked South Carolina to 19-1 on the season, the program's best start since the Gamecocks won their first 22 in 2000, ultimately reaching the Super Regional Final. South Carolina baseball will face Georgia today at 3 pm in search of the series sweep. The game will be available to watch on SEC Network.
