A Snapshot of South Carolina's Chances To Be A Regional Host

Mark Kingston and the South Carolina Gamecocks have certainly been on a rollercoaster ride in the 2023 season.Unfortunately for Carolina, they've endured the nose dive portion of that ride over the past four weeks, as they've lost each of their final four SEC regular season series, dropped midweek games against North Florida and Charlotte, and won just one game in the SEC tournament before being thoroughly dominated by LSU and Texas A&M.
The Gamecocks have essentially left their chances to host a regional up to teams in other conference tournaments, and even worse, in the hands of the selection committee for the NCAA Baseball Tournament. In terms of where the national media currently views South Carolina, here are some of the latest postseason projections.
Postseason Projections *As of 5/26 unless noted otherwise*
D1Baseball.com: No. 2 Seed in Boston Regional (No. 14 Boston College)
Baseball America: No. 14 overall national seed, hosting Duke, Oregon & Santa Clara
College Sports Madness (As of 5/23): No. 10 overall national seed, hosting North Carolina, Southern Cal' and Fairfield
When compiling an aggregate of all of these aforementioned projections, these are the teams South Carolina needs to slip up moving forward.
Team (Conference Aff.): W-L Record | Current RPI | Strength of Sch. | Quad 1 Wins
Texas A&M (SEC): 34-24 | 32nd | 12th | 13 Quad 1 Wins
North Carolina (ACC): 35-21 | 27th | 13th | 11 Quad 1 Wins
East Carolina (AAC): 42-16 | 26th | 60th | 4 Quad 1 Wins
Southern Miss (CUSA): 39-16 | 21st | 45th | 7 Quad 1 Wins
Oklahoma State (Big 12): 38-17 | 22nd | 32nd | 13 Quad 1 Wins
Indiana (Big 10): 41-17 | 28th | 63rd | 8 Quad 1 Wins
For comparison's sake, here's South Carolina and some other teams who've been knocked out in their conference tournament but are still in contention for a regional host spot.
South Carolina (SEC): 39-19 | 7th | 4th | 18 Quad 1 Wins
Oregon State (Pac-12): 39-18 | 36th | 70th | 10 Quad 1 Wins
Tennessee (SEC): 38-19 | 19th | 22nd | 13 Quad 1 Wins
To summarize everything, it appears that South Carolina will need a lot of teams to drop games in the next 48 hours and the selection committee to take in their entire body of work in order to host a regional in June.
