South Carolina Lands Spark Plug in Kelvin Hunter

South Carolina's Football is getting a high-energy run stopper with spark plug capabilities in Kelvin Hunter.

Celebration ran rampant in Columbia after an eventful Wednesday for the South Carolina Gamecocks. South Carolina saw three 2024 recruits commit on Wednesday morning, including Kelvin Hunter, a four-star safety out of West Florence, South Carolina, who can be a spark plug in the Gamecocks' defense.

The first thing you will notice when looking at Kelvin Hunter is his freakish speed on the football field. The track runner, who posted an 11.13 second 100-yard dash time his sophomore year, doesn't slow down at all with the pads on. Though Hunter is listed as a defensive back, his talents lie in the box and around the line of scrimmage. Like Jamal Adams, Hunter is not afraid to lay out an unsuspecting ball carrier and knock the ball loose.

One of his strongest traits is his excellent vision and anticipation, which allows him to track down ball carriers even if they are running toward the opposite side of the field. Combine that with his blazing speed, and you get a safety with high-level run-stopping ability at the next level.

Hunter also blocked a whopping six punts for West Florence High School last Fall, and  considering the Gamecocks proudly boast the best special teams coach in the country, Pete Lembo, Hunter could become a fixture for Beamer Ball 2.0 in quick fashion. Hunter will be a welcomed fresh face in the locker room, because regardless of where he lines up, Hunter will make an impact for South Carolina during his time in Columbia.
