Who Will Zahir Mathis Commit To?

The South Carolina Gamecocks are in the game for several high-profile defensive line prospects in the 2025 recruiting class, including Elijah Griffin, Ari Watford, Zayden Walker, Taeshawn Alston, Bryce Jenkins, and Zahir Mathis. Mathis, rated a four-star edge rusher and the 55th-best prospect in his class by On3 Sports' Industry rankings, is set to announce his commitment later this afternoon.
Zahir has obvious physical intangibles that translate to the next level, considering he's listed at 6'5, 230 pounds as a rising senior at Imhotep Institute in Philadelphia, PA. Mathis released a Top 5 this past Halloween and included the Gamecocks, along with Florida State, Tennessee, Texas, and Ohio State. According to his On3 recruiting profile, Zahir has visited Columbia once, with that visit taking place this past Summer.
So where could Mathis wind up? Right now, the experts seem to believe that Ohio State is the favorite going into Mathis' announcement, which would make sense considering the school's proximity to Zahir's home, their current standing in the sport, and their recent history of sending dominant edge rushers onto the NFL. If South Carolina had Mathis for more visits, I would be tempted to say they have a good shot, but considering all the factors in play, I tend to lean toward where other experts have Zahir going.
Final Prediction: Ohio State
