Portal Update: Breaking Down Weekend Visitors For Gamecocks

We dissect some of the official visits South Carolina's Football program received this past weekend from several key transfer targets.

This weekend provided a front-row seat to the Gamecocks' recruiting stage, as a cluster of college football transfers embarked on official visits. Let's shine a spotlight on the key takeaways, the notable players in attendance, and what we've learned about potential additions to the team.

This weekend was significant for Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks' recruiting efforts, especially in regards to their top targets. The message was well-received, with positive feedback from all of the visitors, notably from former five-star LT Overton of A&M.

Heading into the weekend, the Gamecocks were favored for players like WR Jayden McGowan, DB Gerald Kilgore, TE Tyler Neville, DT Jerome Simmons, and WR Jared Brown. The weekend's success strengthened their contender status, particularly with RB Rocket Sanders, who enjoyed a positive visit.

Despite initial NIL-related concerns with Brown, those have been resolved, with Jared having committed to the Gamecocks. Simmons also committed on Monday, adding depth to the Carolina's defensive line.

However, Tyler Neville opted to commit to Virginia, marking a miss for the Gamecocks in the transfer portal. North Texas RB Oscar Adaway III visited Columbia late last week, receiving an offer. South Carolina aims to secure at least two transfer running backs, with Oscar being a strong candidate.

The groundwork for the Gamecocks' transfer portal class has been laid, with the focus is now on setting up another weekend with promising prospects in the days to come.

Specific Updates On Targets

Texas A&M D-Linman LT Overton

I've removed my prediction for LT to wind up at Carolina, as it was a little premature on my part, but the info leading into the week was a little too good not to at least think about putting one in. The Gamecocks are still a contender, but a school like Alabama is still very much in play at this moment.

The Running Backs

I’m not ready to put in a prediction in for Rocket Sanders or Oscar Adaway III at this time, but after this weekend, there’s been a lot of positive feedback that would suggest putting a couple could be put in in the future.

Jayden McGowan

After being told there were initial NIL concerns, it appears the Gamecocks have resolved any issues. Jayden was in the process of arranging a visit with Boston College on Sunday night, but as of Tuesday morning, it remains uncertain whether or not he will proceed with the visit.
