Caden Sorrell Named To Midseason Watch List For Prestigious College Baseball Honor

When Jace LaViolette was drafted by the Cleveland Guardians in the 2025 MLB draft, many knew that the torch of power-hitting Texas A&M outfielder would be passed down to center fielder Caden Sorrell.
And those many knew that Sorrell was capable of handling the load and carrying the Texas A&M offense, but few probably expected him to already have a new career-high in home runs in the first month and a half of the season, but that is exactly what he's done alongside his 46 RBI and .387 batting average.
Numbers like that get the nation's attention, and now Sorrell could be in the running for the highest individual honor a college player can receive.
Sorrell Named To Midseason Watch List for Golden Spikes Award

Thursday morning, USA Baseball announced the midseason watch list for the Golden Spikes Award, and the Aggie junior was one of the 45 collegiate players named on the list.
That list of 45 will be condensed to a semifinalist list of 15 on May 14, near the conclusion of the regular season.
The Golden Spikes Award is gifted annually by USA Baseball to the best amateur baseball player in the United States, and has been presented every year since 1978 to an amateur player that combines "exceptional on-field ability and exemplary sportsmanship."
The award has served as a stepping stone to many of MLB's best players during their collegiate tenures, with winners including past Cy Young Award-honored pitchers Tim Lincecum (2006 winner), David Price (2007), and Trevor Bauer (2011), as well as MVP winners such as Buster Posey (2008) and Bryce Harper (2010).
Arkansas Razorbacks shortstop Wehiwa Aloy is the most recent winner of the award, and if Sorrell should take home the honor at the end of the season, he would be the first player out of College Station to be crowned.
Sorrell's hard-hitting junior year also serves as him making up for lost time during his sophomore year, which only saw him play in 26 games in the latter half of the year after a hamstring injury and still putting up 12 home runs and knock in 32 runs.
His freshman year during Texas A&M's College World Series run in the 2024 season saw him smack 11 homers and earn a spot on the Freshman All-SEC Team, alongside Gavin Grahovac.
Sorrell will have plenty of chances to continue to show why the award is his to lose when the Aggies host the Vanderbilt Commodores this weekend and then the No. 2 Texas Longhorns next weekend, both at Blue Bell Park.
