Biggest Winners and Losers From Week 1 of Texas A&M Football Fall Camp

The Texas A&M Aggies are looking to replicate the success the program found last season on the football field, where the school made its first ever appearance in the College Football Playoffs in only year two with head coach Mike Elko at the reign.

Beginning the process of another dominant year, begins in fall camp, where the Aggies will get a chance to build on a critical spring practice window and establish the depth chart more consistently with each practice.

After one week of camp there have been risers and fallers, including one standout performance that has everyone turning their head to see the talent in College Station

Two Winners in College Station

Everyone has written about Terry Bussey, and how great he has looked in camp, and truthfully, it's worth harping on once more as one of the major winners from fall camp. He looks to finally be putting the pieces together, and showing why he was one of the most prized prospects the Aggies were looking to land.

Anto Saka, a Northwestern transfer, was hailed for being one of the most electric transfers the Aggies brought in over the offseason. Needing to replace the production of Cashius Howell, Saka seemed like the most likely prospect, but he was also slightly regarded as a reclamation project for Elko and his staff.

Since the beginning of fall camp, however, Saka has shown his technical ability has been refined since arriving in College Station, and with his elite explosiveness and strength he arrived with, puts him in line to join the rest of the most feared edge rushers who have come through the program.

One Major Loser in Week One

Without full pads on fully yet for the Aggies, it's tougher for players to fall behind, especially given the talent level on the roster ahead of the 2026 season. What has stood out so far, and checks out to be a loser is the thought that the Aggies pass rush will be a weakness this season after losing multiple significant pieces from last year.

As stated above, Saka has proven to be the real deal, and looks to show exactly why the coaching staff had high expectations for him when pursuing him out of the transfer portal. Defensive lineman CJ Mims has shown flashes of great interior defense and DJ Hicks is ready to take a step up. The defensive front for the Aggies, once again, could prove to be a strength of the team.
