TCU Baseball Big 12 Weekend Rooting Guide as Tournament Race Tightens

In this story:
Seeding in the Big 12 Tournament matters. Seeding is critical to any team's success, especially the Frogs.
The Big 12 Tournament format makes conference seeding especially important. Teams that finish inside the top six receive a first-round bye, avoiding an extra elimination game and getting additional rest for their pitching staff.
For a TCU team trying to build momentum late in the season, securing that advantage could make a major difference in both the conference tournament and NCAA Tournament positioning. TCU Head Coach, Kirk Saarloos, at the Diamond Club luncheon, explained that the Frogs need to go 4-2 in their last last six games. This puts TCU at 17 conference wins. The Big 12 is the third-best conference, RPI-wise, behind the SEC and ACC. Winning four more games gets TCU back up into a respectable RPI, in Saarloos' opinion.
Here's Your Rooting Guide
TCU Sweeps Utah
Getting the obvious out of the way first. TCU’s success is the most important; without it, the rest of the weekend becomes less important. TCU still has room to climb in the standings. Frogs can get the second seed, but they can also fall to tenth. They currently sit at seventh place, meaning if the season ended before this weekend's series, they would have a matchup with the winner of the No. 10 and No. 11 seeds (currently Baylor and Kansas State).
A sweep for the Frogs would also help them get closer to leaping over Cincinnati, Oklahoma State, and UCF, more on that later.

This is also an important series for Utah, currently the 9th seed. The Utes have a 23-19 overall record, 11-13 in the Big 12, and are battling BYU, who they trail by one game in the standings.
Kansas Beats West Virginia
A battle between the top two records in the Big 12 is a must-watch, but it can have an impact on TCU's standings. TCU sits three games back of the Mountaineers and seven games back of the Jayhawks. As the Frogs mathematically cannot catch Kansas, they can catch West Virginia, which makes it simple. A series win or sweep by the Jayhawks helps the Frogs' chances at a better seed.
Arizona State vs. Oklahoma State
Two teams that have a chance at the rare double bye to the quarterfinals. TCU has a chance to pass both in the standings, but with Arizona State and Oklahoma State having 1 or 3 more wins in conference play, this pick is tricky. Looking ahead to the final weekend of regular season play, both the Sun Devils and Cowboys play Houston and Arizona, currently at the bottom of the standings, No. 13 and No. 14.
Assuming both teams take care of business next weekend, having Arizona State win this series against Oklahoma State gives the Frogs a chance to overtake the Cowboys.
Can Teams at the Bottom Help the Frogs?
The answer is, yes.
The rest of the weekend slate consists of teams either just ahead of the Frogs, Cincinnati, or UCF, playing teams at the bottom of the standings. Quickly, here is how the rest of the weekend should play out in the best-case scenario for the Frogs.
Texas Tech Over BYU
Texas Tech over BYU gives the Frogs room for error. If TCU drops a game, they could be surpassed by BYU, and although it wouldn’t change much- from a seventh seed to an eighth seed- if the Frogs fall to eighth, they would be on a path to play the number one overall seed in the quarterfinals.
Kansas State Beats Cincinnati
TCU is tied with Cincinnati with 13 conference wins each; the Bearcats have 3 more overall wins. If Kansas State can pull off the upset at home, it would give TCU the lead in the standings, giving them the sixth seed. A massive change, as the Frog would avoid playing until the quarterfinals and play on the opposite side of the number one overall seed.
Houston Beats Arizona
This game cannot affect TCU in the standings, but taking anything from this series, Houston winning could give TCU a minor boost at most in terms of the NCAA tournament projections. TCU swept Houston back in April; a Cougar win will make that series sweep look better on TCU’s resume.
Baylor upsets UCF in Waco
Rooting for Baylor may not be easy, but it's for similar reasons as Kansas State over Cincinnati. UCF currently sits at 15-9 and fourth in the conference. TCU can catch them, but not without help from their rival.
TCU’s best-case scenario is to get the sixth seed, getting the bye to the quarterfinals. They certainly need help, but that can only happen if TCU takes care of business. The TCU Horned Frogs take on the Utah Utes in Fort Worth. First pitch is on Friday at 6 PM CT.
What's Next for TCU Baseball

The Horned Frogs are entering one of the most important stretches of the season. Beyond improving conference tournament seeding, every remaining game could impact TCU's NCAA Tournament resume and regional positioning.
Avoiding an early-round matchup against the Big 12's top seed would significantly improve the Frogs' path in Arlington, making this weekend critical for both momentum and postseason outlook.
