Big 12 Football Week 13: Texas and Oklahoma State Clinch Championship Berths

In this story:
It took until double overtime in the last week of the regular season, but now we know that the No. 7 Texas Longhorns and No. 20 Oklahoma State Cowboys will meet in Arlington next Saturday for the Big 12 Championship game.
Texas punched their ticket to the game with a 57-7 blowout win on Friday night over Texas Tech.
After that game, only two scenarios would determine Texas’ opponent. Oklahoma State would advance with a win over BYU. Or, if OSU lost, Oklahoma would go to the championship game.
The Pokes hosted BYU. The Cougars had a strong first half and took a 24-6 lead in the locker room at the half. OSU would come back and take the lead at 27-24. BYU would tie the game with a 48-yard field goal with 0:04 left. Both teams exchanged touchdowns in the first overtime. In the second, OSU scored first with a touchdown. On BYU’s possession, OSU recovered a fumble, which gave them the win.
Week 13 games began early Friday in Norman, with No. 13 Oklahoma hosting TCU. The Sooners needed a win to stay in contention for the championship game. After a dominating second quarter, Oklahoma had a 42-16 halftime lead. Then, in the third quarter, a shootout was underway. TCU would come within two possessions twice but could never catch up. The teams combined for 114 points and 1,100+ total yards of offense. OU won 69-45.
Saturday afternoon, UCF became the only team of the four “newbies” to become bowl eligible with a 27-13 win over Houston. West Virginia would need a go-ahead touchdown with 0:29 left to beat Baylor 34-31. Kansas hammered Cincinnati 49-16.
Farmageddon, the rivalry between Iowa State and Kansas State, was an entertaining back-and-forth affair on a snow-covered field. Iowa State had two plays on the Kansas State side of the 50-yard line. Each of their six touchdowns was for 30 yards or more, with three over 70 yards and another over 80 yards. In the end, KSU could not counter the last touchdown. The final was 42-35.
With its win, UCF became the 9th team in the conference to become bowl eligible. With their losses, TCU and BYU ended with 5-7 records and will not go bowling this year.
