Saturday saw hundreds of excited TCU Horned Frog fans pack into the football practice facilities for the annual Meet the Frogs Day. New head coach Sonny Dykes was available near the entrance for photos with those who were eager to meet Gary Patterson’s replacement.

“I am extremely excited for the Sonny Dykes era to start, especially for the first visit back to SMU this season; it should be a blast,” said former TCU ROTC instructor Edward Carr.

Seeing how many younger kids were on hand to meet their favorite players, receive autographs, and toss the football around was terrific. From corn hole, to free nerf footballs that were given away, the entertainment was endless.

One could say there is a quarterback battle brewing between Chandler Morris and Max Duggan at TCU. However, you couldn’t tell on Saturday. The quarterbacks sat next to each other, posing for pictures and signing autographs. The players were seated by position groups, and fans were given free posters that they could have signed.

“It was a really fun day, especially getting to see all the kids who want to play football when they grow up. However, not many of the kids wanted punting advice,” said TCU Punter Jordy Sandy.

It was hard for a lot of fans to accept how the Patterson era of football at TCU ended, but if Saturday’s event was any indication, it feels like a healthy step in the right direction. There was a definite sense that the Fort Worth community is behind Sonny Dykes.

TCU is looking to bounce back from a shaky 5-7 season last year, going only 3-6 in conference. They will open up play out of conference, when they take on the University of Colorado Buffaloes on Friday, September 2.

“Colorado is a good program, but I think we will be ready, and our guys will show up and play well,” said Head Coach Sonny Dykes.
